About

MAJICAL CLOUDZ IN CONCERT:

Canadian synthpop duo Majical Cloudz are bringing a much-needed dose of genuine emotion to pop music with their melancholy tracks and plaintive vocals. Frontman Devon Welsh delivers his deeply personal lyrics with staggering intensity at the band's live shows, taking audiences on a heart-rending ride as the mesmerizing music of collaborator Matthew Otto ebb and flow around him. The approach is minimal, but the mood Welsh conjures up on lush tracks like "Childhood's End" and "Savage" is all-encompassing. Lorde handpicked Majical Cloudz as the opening act for her 2014 US tour dates, and ticket buyers lucky enough to catch them in concert will have no trouble seeing why.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Majical Cloudz was formed as a collaborative project by Devon Welsh in 2010. Working with other artists and musicians he released a flurry of material on Arbutus Records in 2011, including the Earth to a Friend/Mountain Eyes EP and the full-length album II. Welsh brought Matthew Otto on board in 2012 to produce and perform his songs, and the result was 2013's Impersonator. The album received stellar reviews, leading to extensive touring and earning the band a nomination for the year's Polaris Music Prize. On the road in support of the release the duo floored fans with their starkly beautiful live shows, which feature minimal lighting and harrowingly emotional vocal performances by Welsh. A rising act with big things on the horizon, Majical Cloudz continued to enthrall in 2014 as the opening act on Lorde's North American tour.

Majical Cloudz is one of the best out right now

This was my second time seeing Majical Cloudz. It was absolutely fantastic, like the first time. The only thing is that this time Devon's throat was enflamed. Even so, they delivered an amazing performance. I can't wait till they come back again.

    Dull

The first band, Moon King was horrible. The vocals were so shrill, cheesy, no talent at all. The male singer looked so idiotic on stage. Was a relief when they were finally done playing. Majical Cloudz was pretty good. A bit dull. I really like his music. But it was making me tired. In the back of my head I was waiting for the show to be over honestly.
