About

Madeintyo In Concert

Though he was born in Honolulu, Malcolm Jamaal Davis came by his MC moniker, MadeinTYO (i.e., Made In Tokyo) honestly. Born into a military family, Davis spent his teenage years living in Japan, and the experience would leave a deep impression that formed the thematic undercurrent of his future work as a rapper.

After relocating to Atlanta (where he and his brother Royce Rizzy formed the Private Club label/collective), it didn't take long for MadeinTYO to join the ranks of the hip-hop mecca's most popular MCs. His 2016 debut single "Uber Everywhere" — a playfully profane, slack-trap ode to the ubiquitous car-share service — cracked the Top 20 on both Billboard's Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts en route to a platinum certification from the RIAA.

The single received a hearty second wind thanks to a remix featuring Travis Scott, and that version became the centerpiece of MadeinTYO's debut mixtape ‘You Are Forgiven,' which also saw the MC team up with ATL legend 2Chainz on the swaggering single "I Want." With the release of the follow-up mixtape ‘Thank You, Mr. Tokyo' a few months later, MadeinTYO finished the year as one of the top five most streamed new artists on Spotify in 2016 (with more than 100 million clicks generated by a remix of the single "Skateboard P," featuring Big Sean).

Riding the momentum of that breakthrough year, MadeinTYO became an ubiquitous guest MC throughout 2017, appearing on tracks by the likes of G-Eazy, Ty Dolla Sign, and ASAP Ferg. He also dropped a teaser track, "MADEINBOOMIN,'" from a long-gestating collaborative project with superstar producer Metro Boomin.

In 2018, MadeinTYO finally released his first proper full-length album — ‘Sincerely, Tokyo' — whose lead single "Ned Flanders" reunited him with ASAP Ferg for a cheeky trap grinder in the tradition of MadeinTYO's uber-successful debut hit. But the album's eclectic guest list — featuring R&B hitmaker Tinashe and indie-soul auteur Blood Orange — speaks to the more highly evolved artistic vision at play.

    Incredible.

by Al on 2/13/22AURA - Tempe

For a big celebrity and well known person, Madeintyo was super super super humble. Out of all of the local shows I’ve been to I’ve not met one person as humble as Madeintyo. He took the time after the show and during the show to take pictures with everyone and talk with them for a bit. He literally would talk with every single fan and pose to take a picture with him without having tickets for a meet and greet. Exceptional guy! Madeintyo’s humbleness made this experience a 10/10. Uno was really good too the way he got the crowd hyped and stuff was really good. Overall Madeintyo is the most humble celebrity/rapper I’ve met!

    Great Performance! Not enough time.

by Javsterati on 10/23/16The Tabernacle - Atlanta

He was the first performer of 5. He did really great, the entire crowd knew his music. He was only allowed to play 3-4 Songs and it was kind of disappointing. He needed more time, but overall made the best of the time given to him. He met fans afterwords for pictures, and we spoke more than I thought, He was humble for such a great artist. He took over my snap when I asked for a picture which left me shook, and for sure will be at his next performance in Atlanta.
