About

M83's "Midnight City" was one of the most anthemic songs of 2011, ending up at the top of Pitchfork's year-end list and propelling album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming to Top 40 chart positions around the world. The band's subsequent concert tour gave ticket buyers a close-up view of what makes them an international success — namely, a deep catalog of polished songs, a laser and light show that blows all audiences away and the infectious stage presence of founding member Anthony Gonzalez. If there's one word to describe M83's vibe, it's optimistic; and whether it's the band's exhilarating anthems or their danceable synth-based instrumentals, you'll definitely walk away feeling good. "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" was their breakout, but seeing them live puts them over the top.

The band got its start in Antibes, France, with founding members Anthony Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau. After releasing two albums, 2001's self-titled debut and 2003's "Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts," to critical acclaim, Fromageau departed and left Gonzalez to pursue his singular vision. Gonzalez soon followed up with 2005's "Before the Dawn Heals Us" and 2008's "Saturdays=Youth" before culminating with "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming." Gonzalez has also contributed to several remix collections and a film soundtrack while attracting a steady stream of his own collaborators for M83. This band shows that "overnight success" is often years in the making, and now that they're in the limelight, they have the chops to back it up.

Awesome venue and great performance by M83

by Kbarc on 10/15/23The Sound - Del Mar

Concert sound was spot on and the venue (The Sound / Del Mar) was very nice with plenty of bars to get drinks and clean bathrooms. Never saw a line for anything. Lots of staff there to help as well. M83 crushed it. One of my favorite bands. Loved the 3 song encore which included the song “Midnight City” and “Mirror”. They perform with lots of energy and passion.

Solitude & Laser Guns & Champagne

    by Lukebro123 on 5/21/23Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I realized I’ve been listening to M83 since I was in 7th grade.. although I didn’t know what to expect when seeing a band like this perform, I was absolutely blown away. Their show consisted of waves of large builds with high energy stage presence and crowd interaction as well as soft/quiet intimate moments that draw you in. The sound was immaculate, the light show was perfectly synced with the music and the overall experience was pure magic. These people have created an unforgettable show that I would recommend to anyone, as there is something for all to enjoy. I love M83 and you should too.

    Excellent Show

by Hammer on 5/20/23Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

M83 put on an outstanding show at the Fox Theater in Oakland. The ambiance, sound, and visuals were crisp, moving, and ethereal. The new album's songs dominated the setlist, which were great. The only minor criticism is M83 did not play a song from Oblivion. Many of we fans were excited to hear the theme song, or at least Starwaves, from the soundtrack.

    Meh

by MrVertigo on 5/20/23Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I was sort of looking forward to this and yet had very little expectations but at best, the band was decent, though tried too hard to rock out but fell flat with a mix that was way too bass heavy w/the middle and highs obliterated. And no hooks! It was altogether a not so great show. I wasn’t disappointed, just meh!

    Jaw Dropping Performance 5/14/23

    by MDA on 5/20/23

Heard of M83 in 2019 and have wanted to see them ever since. It was a jaw dropping performance. I was in shock the whole time simply by how amazing the band was. I cried during “Wait”. Wife and 1.5 year old Daughter came with me and it was worth the 4 hour drive from Los Angeles. Already have tickets for the Shrine gig in October. New album live was phenomenal and was better than the actual studio version. Setlist was spectacular. Venue was easy to get in and out of. Short merch lines. An intimate venue as we were seated behind the pit and had a real good view of the band. It seemed as if every seat in the house had a good view.

    M83

by Dr Prick Face on 5/20/23Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I was disappointed because M83 only played one song of those that made me a fan, but this has happened to me before with other bands. However, as I said to my friend, I’ve never been disappointed by Green Day. 😎
