Bryonn Bain has an uncanny talent for threading a story together. He keeps the audience captivated from the beginning to the end with no areas of disinterest or boredom. He also brings portions of his upbringing into the mix which gives the viewer a complete picture leading to the climax of the play. Bryonn Bain is BRILLIANT!!
Lyrics from Lockdown was truly something new and revolutionary. I have been to many plays and musicals, but never have I seen something like this one. The blend of art and activism was truly spectacular. As a student passionate about social justice issues and diversity work, it was incredible to watch a true story about racial profiling presented so uniquely and powerfully. I think the simplicity of the production made it all the more impactful. All emotions, tension and laughter came straight from Bryonn Bain and his powerful lyrics and poetry, not from any major effects or elaborate set designs. The play definitely left me thinking - and searching for more plays that bend art and activism so beautifully!
The one man show was awesome and to know that everything we heard was true made it even more real.
