About

LYNN MILES IN CONCERT:

The moment Lynn Miles takes the stage, ticket buyers are treated to an emotional tour de force that tugs at their heartstrings in the most satisfying way possible. Combining clear melodies with her soothing, delicate voice, the Canadian singer has established herself as one of the most talented songwriters to hit airwaves since Joni Mitchell. Miles' catalog of 12 studio albums is packed with lyrics that are astoundingly vulnerable and sweetly sincere. The deep impact that her music has made on legions of fans stems from her ability to take difficult life experiences and craft them into relatable tunes that are ultimately full of hope and optimism. Watching Miles in concert elicits those same intense emotions, making her live shows profoundly meaningful and memorable for fans both new and old.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Quebec-born Lynn Miles grew up surrounded by music -- her father's extensive jazz collection and her mother's love of opera and country gave Miles a diverse musical education that fueled her intense passion. During her school years she learned to play the violin, guitar, piano, and flute, and began writing songs at the tender age of 10. Miles went on to study classical music history and theory at Carleton University in Ottowa, but eventually dropped out so she could spend more time performing at small clubs in the city's vibrant music scene. She eventually became a voice teacher at Ottawa Folklore Centre, where one of her star pupils was a then-teenage Alanis Morissette. In 1991 Miles released her debut album Chalk This One Up To The Moon, an auspicious first effort that hinted at big things to come. Her Philo Records-released sophomore album, 1996's Slightly Haunted, earned rave reviews from prestigious publications including the New York Times and was named a Billboard Top Ten Pick of the Year. Miles has since released a total of 12 studio albums including 2013's Downpour, and has earned multiple Juno and Canadian Folk Music awards.
