    Luma

by Driad on 11/9/11Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

This was a great event for family and kids. The kids really enjoyed it. However, for adults only it was so-so.

    Eccentric and surreal

by KRockStar on 11/8/11Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

The show's creator is a definite eccentric, but what do you expect from a guy that packed it all up, built a treehouse on an island, and lived there for 5-years! I mean, this guy probably was like Tom Hanks in castaway...and he still sort of looks that way! The light show was genius for the most part. I took my 7yr old and 9 yr old and they both loved it and actually stayed awake through the entire show which ended somtime around 10:30 pm. The tix for $20 was reasonable for this show, there were several parts that just seemed to repeat themselves, a lot of juggling, and out dated choreography. The show could use updated dance moves, the robot scene with futuristic electronic music would have been awesome with the robots doing the shuffle dance. Instead they did something from the sound of music. In any event, I would recomend the show at the price I paid for tickets and the kids enjoyed every moment of it.

    Luma - Sooo disappointing

by Tomalli on 11/7/11Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

What a disappointment!!! From the very opening 'act' of juggling and jokes, it was a flop. I felt that I was at a childrens theatre or a highschool bad play. It was terrible. We left early. It was a waste of time.

    Luma

by Anonymous on 11/7/11Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

If there was an option for a no star rating that would be more accurate. It was difficult to sit through this amaturish production. Maybe if your elememtary school aged children were on stage you would find some value, but even the young children in the audience were not interested in watching this disaster. The creator of this production is out of touch with the sophistication of todays audiences and had I paid for our tickets I would have asked for my money back. I wonder how many people went back into the theatre after the intermission. They seemed to be right behind us on the way back to our car.

    Luma: Turn off the light!

by loveslivetheater2 on 11/6/11Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

We were very disappointed with the show. It did not live up to it's description at all! The show was mediocre at best and was certainly not worth the ticket price of $50.00 each! This would be a show you would expect at a school assembly during school hours, not an evening out for adults(we had ages 20- 50 years young at this show). The show itself was repetitious and the dancing parts were horribly choreographed. One dancer even tripped and fell!!! This was 20 minutes of a show stretched out over 2 hours long. The crude child jokes fell flat on the audience especially for the parents who were there with their young kids and no one laughed at them. Sexual innuendo type jokes were probably not the best idea for the evening especially with the young families that were present. I don't suggest going to this show.

Worse than a high school play

by Anonymous on 11/6/11Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

I loved the concept of Luma, but the execution was just so bad. There are so many amazing things that light can do, so it was extra disappointing that this show sucked so much. The only consolation was that the creator (who opened the show) seemed very passionate and genuine.

    Cute and fun

by KMMR on 11/6/11Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

I thought LUMA was very cute. I think it would have been a lot more fun for kids than adults... the show wasn't quite what I was expecting. I guess from the videos on the Civic Center web site I thought LUMA was going to be a lot faster paced and with more extravagant lights. In reality the show was very mellow and low key. It was very cute and imaginative. Not quite worth the high ticket price I paid... but I did enjoy the show.

    Not what I was expecting

by MacMiller on 11/6/11Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

The event felt more like a talent show than a production. There really should have been an age-range communicated with the marketing for this event. We left during intermission, disappointed.

Amateurish dancing around with various glo-stix p

by Sluggo55 on 11/6/11Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

Hard to stay awake for this sleeper. Guys dresses in black to not be seen with their various little glow stick thingies. Some even white tennis shoes on... Real professional lot eh? It's a decent idea for a warm up act, but not enough depth for a headliner. Save your money for a show with real talent...

    Not what we hoped for

by SoCalMomma on 11/6/11Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

LUMA was original, but not the high-tech, advanced show we expected. For the ticket price, we expected something more professional. I would not recommend this show to others, except maybe to younger kids who may think it was a good show.
