About

LIA ICES IN CONCERT:

Up-and-coming singer-songwriter Lia Ices has quickly become a critical darling with her acrobatic vocals, innovative electro-folk sound, and soaring live performances. Ices' dynamic voice sounds as great on slow, introspective tracks as it does on upbeat pop anthems, and she's become known for making dramatic stylistic leaps mid-song -- a thrilling effect that's even more powerful at her live shows. Whether she's covering Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" or burning bright on originals like "Higher", Ices is a world-class performer who never fails to captivate with her ethereal vocals, lush synths, and charismatic stage presence on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Connecticut-born Lia Ices, aka Lia Kessel, began playing piano at age five under the encouragement of her father. By college, she was studying experimental theater at NYU and writing pop music in her spare time. She made her debut in 2008 with the album Necima, an introspective, deeply personal release that critics praised for its sonic creativity and Ices' dynamic voice. After touring in support of the record she holed up in Vermont for six months to write her sophomore LP, 2011's Grown Unknown. The album was another critical success, benefitting from an expanded sonic palette and guest vocals from Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon on the track "Daphne". She followed up in 2012 with a memorable one-off cover of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here", and in 2014 she released her highly anticipated third album Ices. With soaring electronic tracks like "Higher" and "Waves", the album is her most experimental work to date, which makes it a perfect addition to her passionate, dynamic sets on tour.

    Sun Airway is great live!

by mattmaison on 12/16/10Mercury Lounge - New York

90% of the crowd at this show left after Lia Ices and missed Sun Airway. Mercury Lounge with only about 20 people in the crowd is always amazing, but Sun Airway really sounded great. Those that left early really missed out!!!
