About

LES CLAYPOOL IN CONCERT:

In 2012, Les Claypool, virtuoso bassist and frontman of legendary funk rock band Primus, unveiled a new acoustic project with guitarist Bryan Kehoe dubbed Duo De Twang. Exploring Americana and  roots rock, Duo De Twang stands in stark contrast to the sonic assault of Primus, favoring stripped down arrangements, minimal percussion, and an intimate live setup. Fans of humorous songwriting are in luck — Duo De Twang explore a brand of leftfield storytelling that will ring familiar to fans of Claypool's beloved work with Primus, including several reinterpretations of favorites like "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver" and "Jerry Was a Racecar Driver." In conjunction with the 2014 release of their debut album Four Foot Shack, Duo De Twang are hitting the road for their first tour, treating fans around the country to Calypool's signature twangy vocals and furious fingerpicking.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in California, Claypool took up the bass during childhood in order to set himself apart from the abundance of aspiring guitarists looking to be the next Eddie Van Halen. Mastering the art of slap bass in high school, he founded Primus in the mid '80s, giving the bass a prominent position in the band's unique sound. With their eccentric appearance and often bizarre lyrics, Primus was an idiosyncratic presence on the charts in the '90s, an odd bedfellow to the more straight-ahead alternative rock bands of the decade.  From heading Lollapalooza in 1993 to penning the South Park theme song in 1997, Primus made the art of letting your freak flag fly fashionable — a legacy Claypool clearly intends to build on with Duo De Twang.

    A fun show

by Gary on 11/17/23The Wellmont Theater - Montclair

It's not every day that you get to see a marimba and xylophone player live in a band. I always love to see instruments that one doesn't see every day. The bands musicianship was top notch. Oh yeah, pretty cool seeing John Lennon's son Sean who happens to be an excellent musician!

    Excellent Show!

by Barry on 11/4/23The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

Great show by Les Claypool and the fearless, flying frog brigade, their cover of Pink Floyds animals I thought was great and the rest of the show had fun energy and a good mix of songs on the setlist. Wish there was some Primus on the setlist, but overall loved the show.

    DAYUM!!!

by Octoskull on 11/1/23The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

What a blast. Sound was insanely good. The band was absolutely sick and the setlist was amazing. Hearing them do "Animals"in its entirety was mind-blowing. Catch this tour if you can!

    Les is more

by Coop on 10/27/23The Wellmont Theater - Montclair

His band is hot. Always love a bass player band with a ton of bottom. Xylophone compliments it so well. Two percussionists is also key to the depth of his sound. Set two Animals was just unreal. I appreciate them playing it just as Floyd did, not taking on any “interpretation”. You never get to hear Animals live and perfect. His own stuff was jammin and super cool and interesting. No wonder he and Billy Strings crossed paths!

    As good as it gets

by HardRox on 10/27/23The Wellmont Theater - Montclair

For progressive music aficionados there could be no better experience the FFFB. Les is always amazing and morphs his sound and approach with each band iteration and this was among my favorite incarnations. The revelation for me on this tour was Sean Lennon's performance. His vocals an eerie echo of his familial bloodlines with his own unique gifts added to the mix. His guitar work was the a joyful surprise. Collectively the Delirium have created a wholly new sound. Oh, and tge Pink Floyd stuff was great;) Harry did the music proud with his very spacey keys.
