About

LAURA MARLING IN CONCERT:

British songbird Laura Marling recaptures the magic of folk-rock’s heyday with her poetic lyrics and dynamic vocal delivery. In concert she gracefully plucks Piedmont melodies and folksy chords on both acoustic and electric guitars to provide a resonant, rootsy launching pad for her soaring vocals. Whether she’s performing unaccompanied or with her backing band, the emotional core of each brisk strain and forlorn ballad shines through. As Marling gets lost in the moment, audiences will also find themselves transfixed by her carefully chosen words and brilliantly arranged songs. On tour in 2015 to promote her acclaimed fifth album Short Movie, Laura Marling is bringing her deeply moving and softly swaying folk to ticket buyers across America

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The daughter of a Baronet who ran a recording studio, Laura Marling has always had music and nobility in her blood. Inspired by the folk music that her father introduced her to, Marling learned how to play guitar as a child and hasn’t looked back since. She moved to London at age 16 and joined the initial lineup of Noah and the Whale, but left in 2008 following her breakup with bandleader Charlie Fink. The falling out didn’t set her back much -- she began touring in support of Jamie T on her way to releasing her debut album Alas, I Cannot Swim the same year. The record became a runaway success after being nominated for a Mercury Prize, the highest honor awarded to British full-length albums every year. In addition to her debut, Marling's 2010 album I Speak Because I Can and 2013 LP Once I Was an Eagle were also nominated for the prestigious award. WIth the 2015 release of her fifth album Short Movie, Marling put in a strong bid for a fourth Mercury Prize nomination while simultaneously earning praise for her thrilling reinvention of her live and recorded sound.
