About

This is one musical that has it all: a knockout Jerry Herman score that's filled with such hits as "I Am What I Am," "With You On My Arm," and "The Best of Times;" a hilarious book by none other than Harvey Fierstein; a gorgeous, glamorous company of tap-dancing Cagelles; and inspired direction by four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks.

A fierce and funny dazzler from start to finish, La Cage is set in an elegant nightclub where surprises are lurking at every turn. And, when a family's future in-laws come for a visit, the truth comes out in the wildest of ways.

    Great Small Theatre Performance

by Paul on 5/10/22John, James and Clara Knight Stage - Akron

With small theatre, audience engagement makes or breaks the show. The performers in La Cage engaged across the ensemble and throughout the performance. The songs were memorable, with I Am What I Am as a pinnacle performance. Each of the characters shined in their roles, with Rob Phillips’ commanding performance as Albin/Zaza supported beautifully by Harry Cool’s level-headed Georges, and Joey Cayabyab’s cheeky Jacob. The details of the Cagell dancers and the loyal stage hand Francis (Jeff Bixby) brought the audience further in to this fun and touching story. Thank you to the cast and crew for a memorable and fun performance.

    Fun time

by JJ on 5/10/22John, James and Clara Knight Stage - Akron

We didn’t realize that the performance was a non-professional community theater production, but we had a great time! Over all the actors did a great job and we were happy we went. The theater is a small box theater. Very personal and up close. Definitely a good time and we’re hoping to be able to attend the next show

    Great show!

by Klara & Oleg on 4/28/22John, James and Clara Knight Stage - Akron

Terrific performance! Very funny actors! The only thing we would change - length of the show. It went on for over 2 hours.

    Don’t recommend

by Mam on 4/25/22John, James and Clara Knight Stage - Akron

This was not a great performance. The seats were too close together and it was uncomfortable and hot in there. They need to space them a little further apart so you don’t have someone sitting on your seat. In addition the performers were not that great. Overall a disappointment.

    Fun, Fanciful & Fantastic

by Palmjumper on 10/4/15Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

This Regional Theater production of La Cage is very true to the original Broadway production. Several of the lead actors in this show were in the original Broadway version. It is a fun production and the audience is enthusiastic. With dazzling costumes and lavish production numbers, this San Diego cast did Jerry Herman's score proud. I never wanted the show to end. The audience agreed with a long standing ovation. Open your eyes and go see it, you'll love it.

    La Cage Aux Folles

by Johnrox on 9/30/15Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

When my husband and I decided to see this musical, we did not know what to expect from the SDMT group. Boy were we surprised, happy and glad we came to see one of the finest productions ever done in our opinion by a local theater group. We were impressed by everyone in the cast, especially the "gaggle of girls" who were on the stage often, in different costumes doing different dances who made the audience laugh, clap and scream for more more more. The 2 male leads had the best voices and their stage presence was great! I would recommend this production to anyone and everyone. Our seats were great, it is a beautiful old theater that I used to visit when I was a small child. I am a 4th generation native San Diego so for me to see how beautiful the Spreckles theater is again, made me happy. Everyone around us loved the production. Way to go........hope the run is a huge success. We will be back. Roxie and John

La Cage Aux Folle Spotlight on Christopher Sieber

by BriYelloh on 7/26/12Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre - Orlando

The show was pure entertainment. I was familiar with the story after seeing the film The Birdcage, the son of a gay couple (one of whom is drag performer) comes home to inform his parents he's engaged to be married to the daughter of a conservative politician; a series of comical events ensue as the pair try to present a "normal" family for their son. The standouts from the show were the amazing Cagelles a troupe of all male dancers whose physicality and skill was spellbinding. The other main standout was Broadway star and Tony nominee Christopher Sieber in the role of Albin/Zaza . His presence lit up the whole stage while his acting was fantastic and his voice was spectacular, powerful, and moving. I cannot dish out enough praise for him. Performing the beautiful/empowering "I Am What I Am" I couldn't help but tear up watching Zaza stand proudly on the stage. He gave the flamboyant character heart and strength where he might have veered off into irritating and draining. As for his costar the famously tan George Hamilton he was...good. Compared to his costar he was stiff and his singing was just okay, a little to bound up for the loose fun of the show. I also wasn't a big fan of Jeigh Madjus as the assistant Jacob. His laughs fell flat and his performance felt shrill and grating. Overall the show is heartfelt, funny, and wonderfully entertaining. The highlights found in wonderful Cagelles routines and the presence of beautiful Christopher Sieber alone is enough to see this production. Fantastic.
