    Kronos delivers yet again

by Paul on 3/7/24Centennial Hall - Tucson

Highly enjoyable concert, showcasing Kronos' virtuosity, versatility and good taste. I've been listening to them for a good long time, and they always satisfy.

Bizarre and not in a good way

by Mags on 2/25/24Centennial Hall - Tucson

It was kind of bizarre, to be honest. Lots of talking and bizarre experimental “music”…. I’m familiar with Kronos and it was NOT what I expected. My daughter and I left before intermission. Wish they would have played more of their own stuff.

    Stunning!

by JLEL on 3/12/18Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

On every level- musically, historically, emotionally and existentially - this experience is impeccable. Chessman's libretto, paired with the grounded and yet transcendent sound of the Kronos Quartet, carries your heart to the heights and depths of this story.Berger's composition has both roots and wings. Van-Anh Vo graces the composition with the delicate presence of a butterfly and resounding thunder claps insisting we pay attention! Eckert ...what does one say? 75 minutes of rising and falling and rising again. The resonant ascendancy of beautiful notes, alternately plunging into discordant hell, was astounding. The talents of Cameron, DeChiazza, Scott, Fraser and Mohr added visual cues that led us in and out of three landings. Exhausted, inspired and struck dumb, I re-entered the world remembering. And to Kristy Edmunds and her team.....Royce Hall rocks in the best ways possible.

    Kronos Quartet

by Albby on 10/10/16Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Another great evening spent with Kronos; as a many decades follower of theirs this particular group of songs 50 for the Future was really extraordinary. The Tanya Tagaq piece was especially moving as I had just seen her perform the week before.

    Tagaq takes your breath away....

by SpikeTheCat on 2/1/10Chan Centre for the Performing Arts - Vancouver

Tanya Tagaq was remarkable. I'd heard her several years ago when she was merely wonderful. She has matured vocally and developed better stage presence. And the voice .... I did not think it was possible for a human being to do what she does with her voice. A growl with a fundamental frequency down around that of a water buffalo resonates throughout the hall while two separate breathing and vocal notes are layered on top of it. She's expanded "classic" Inuit 'throat singing' (which is really just controlled vocalized breathing) and blended it with the fabulous musical interpretations of Kronos using mostly Nordic modern music forms as the backdrop. Plus she has fabulous stage presence, a rock-star quality, beauty and sensuousness that leaks into every pore of your body.
