About

Kris Kristofferson on Tour

When Kris Kristofferson hits the stage, it's clear why he's become a legend of outlaw country. He plays it like he feels it — as an unfancy, master singer-songwriter, sometimes with a band and sometimes without, strumming his acoustic guitar and delivering his game-changing songs with well-weathered style. His character-rich voice lets you know he's been around the block more than once, and the songs combine a poet's command of language with a country singer's knack for putting things together organically so they go down easy. Along the way, he slips in his one-of-a-kind perspective on things. He might be unpacking the wistful romanticism of "Me and Bobby McGee" or depicting the morning-after madness of "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," but he always makes you see the world a bit differently.

Kris Kristofferson in Concert

After Kris Kristofferson first started making waves in Nashville in the late '60s, country music (and American music) was forever changed. Singer-songwriters had never written so frankly about sensuality, and country had never had its own Bob Dylan before. With Kristofferson came a glorious collision of poetry-laden lyrics and countercultural sensibilities with the attitude of rock 'n' roll and the template of classic country. Besides making waves with his own albums, he reached into our collective conscience through his songs' numerous covers, performed by artists like Janis Joplin ("Me and Bobby McGee") and Sammi Smith ("Help Me Make It Through the Night"). Before the '70s were over, his natural charisma and chiseled countenance had helped make him a movie star too, with films like Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and A Star Is Born. Later he became a member of legendary supergroup The Highwaymen, alongside Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. As the decades passed, Kristofferson has never backed away from his commitment to write and perform to the utmost of his abilities. He's a true-blue American legend.

A Rhodes Scholar with nothing to say

    by Brian on 12/11/23

Chris has lived an incredible life. He is a Rhodes Scholar, He traveled in some incredible circles in the 60's 70's and 80's. Oh to be a fly on his wall.... I did not go to hear the Delcid Tones of a crooner... I went to hear his incredible song writing in his raspy voice. I enjoyed that part. My greatest disappointment was his complete lack of intimacy with the crowd while he just went from song to song without an iota of a story or shared experience.. I am glad I saw Kris... but I still don't know Kris. Merle's Kids were awesome!

    Such an enjoyable evening

by Ann on 2/10/20Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

It was great to see Kris in person. I've always loved his music. He and the band was just great, and I could have set there longer listening to his singing. I was so glad that the venue seemed to be filled to capacity. We had good seats, and the parking was okay even with all the construction going on (we did get there a bit early).

I’d trade all of my tomorrows for one single yesterday.

    by M. J. on 2/8/20

I feel lucky he’s performing. Sound was corrected after intermission. Those folks who left should’ve stayed! I felt organ drowned him out a bit 1st couple songs. Still, stunned to see him up there singing those great songs. So much love from audience. Close your eyes a moment. Damn, it’s 2020 and I’m here listening to Kris Kristofferson! Scott Joss a talent. Thank you Merle Haggard band. Grateful to hear KK singing his songs. Keep on keepin’ on. Made me sad after he ended with Why Me, with so many standing ovations, he walked back out and sang: “This could be our last good night together. We may never pass this way again. Just let me enjoy it 'til it's over, or forever. Please don't tell me how the story ends.” No!

Loved the songs, not the voice

    by M. S. on 2/7/20Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

I've been a Kristofferson fan almost forever. Love the songs he's written. However, he's lost his vocal range. I think now it is about 5 notes. Also thought many of the songs should have been arranged in a higher key. The backup group which I think he called the Merle Haggard Band was excellent. Kris sounded much better when they accompanied him vocally as well as instrumentally. I won't go to another one of his concerts. However, the evening that I saw him perform, the crowd went crazy and gave him several standing ovations. I think it was out of nostalgia for the songs that were and are and for the voice that was, but isn't anymore.

Kris was great - House sound was awful.

by Frankgtv on 2/7/20Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

The sound mix was really off. Kris was muffled and hard to understand. The keyboard was way too loud and drowned out the vocals. Was so disappointed because I was looking forward to seeing a legend.

    great show

by Big Phil on 2/7/20Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

Outstanding. His voice waivered in the middle of show but last five songs were fantastic. Hard to believe he is 83 years old.

Kris Kristofferson Concert 02/04/20 Parker Play House

by Patrick on 2/7/20Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

The concert overall was very good, as his lyrics are second to none. The facility and staff were outstanding. My only problem was with the sound system, as there was TOO MUCH BASS, and it distorted his signing. The sound guy for the band really messed up.

    Bad equipment?

by miamifife on 2/7/20Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

It was a pleasure to be in Kris Kristofferson’s presence. Sadly, in Row R it was impossible to hear the lyrics other than a word coming through here and there. He did not interact between songs with the exception of saying the song was written for his children. I left at intermission

    Not so great

by Concert goer on 2/7/20Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

Left after 5th song, 2 of which were sung by backup band. (#4 was Bobbie McGee - oh dear) I have utmost respect for this staple of my youth. My mistake...didn’t realize Kristofferson was 82.

    Kriss Kristofferson

by K. on 2/7/20Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

America’s poet. What a privet age to see him perform. His voice is not as strong as years ago, but it was still an emotional experience. Standing ovations after each of his big hits. Would go again Ina heartbeat. He’s a very humble, talented sweet man. His fiddle player, Scott Joss was amazing. Great string player and beautiful voice.
