Konshens In Concert
Look no further than Konshens for dancehall reggae's new global ambassador. In the last few years, the Kingston-born vocalist has partnered with Jamaica's hottest producers and the United States' top-selling rappers and played to major crowds in Japan, Europe, and South America.
Perhaps it's his stylistic versatility that sets him apart and attracts fans from far and wide. Konshens applies his hip-hop-influenced, smooth-yet-assertive vocal style to bashment bangers, gyal songs, and badman anthems alike. In 2018, he released his latest album, the 16-track ‘It Feel Good,' via his own Subkonshus Music label and San Francisco-based EMPIRE Records.
‘It Feel Good' — IFG for short — features stellar appearances by Rick Ross and Shaggy, and Chris Brown graces the remix of "Bruk Off Yuh Back," Konshens' biggest hit to date. Beyond IFG, Konshens recently dropped tracks with dancehall innovators Major Lazer, LA MC Nipsey Hussle, and EDM superstars the Chainsmokers. Few Jamaican artists alive have taken their talents as far as Konshens.
His success is hard-fought. Born Garfield Spence, Konshens split his youth between the military base where his father was stationed and Sherlock Crescent, a rough community on the outskirts of Kingston. He and his brother found music early and formed their breakout project, Sons of Jah, when they were barely out of their teens.
With songs detailing the struggles of Sherlock Crescent, the group found early success in Japan and Europe and subsequently toured and released albums there, establishing their international fan base. In 2008, Konshens released his first solo single, "Winner." In 2012, he released his debut solo album ‘Mental Maintenance,' which showcased his mastery of reggae, dancehall, and hip-hop styles. He's dropped major dancehall hits every year since, in the process has elevated not only his own profile but the entire genre.
On stage, Konshens is equally eclectic, weaving the entire history of dancehall into his own contemporary hits. Whether performing with a DJ or a full band, Konshens brings a ferociously energetic live set and connects to audiences regardless of their language or nationality, taking Jamaican music into the 21st century and around the world.
Best event to attend loved every artist performances.
This event is awesome and it is the only professionally run dancehall show in new york city. only problem is wish it could run later than 11 but oh well I will be back next year looking forward to the lineup
The tickets were a gift for my mom for her birthday. She still in pain from all the dancing she did. Only complaints were that it was cold and the prices for drinks.
Enjoyment to the fullest. No fights no weapons just a mature crowd.
