    KidzRoc - Rochester Armory

by karens1 on 2/7/11Main Street Armory - Rochester

At first I was surprised at the low turnout, as there were chairs set up for only a couple hundred at most. There were a number of very young children running around the floor, which I thought was nice, thinking that is who the concert was directed at. The excitement was nice. However, this was, simply put, NOT a concert for young kids. I guess that I was expecting something more for children (as others also clearly expected, judging from the number of young (age 4 to 6 ?) children. Songs included things like "Sweet Home Alabama", "Jumpin Jack Flash", and "Fat Bottom Girls". The "surprise guests" included people inpersonating Cher, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and the like. Again, not for kids. I was expecting young impersonators like Hannah Montana, Justin Bieber, Jonas Brothers, etc., along with songs of that genre. (OK, OK... I was expecting songs like "KidzBop" type songs...). While the teens putting on the concert were quite good, and should be commended for their talent and working on a benefit concert of this type, it was a concert that DID NOT appeal to the audience to which it was marketed. It should have been marketed more to teens and maybe older "tweens", not to "Kidz". Perhaps the turnout would then have been better. Granted, I am a bit old for a loud rock concert of this type, but the kids there were too youngt ! And it was indeed VERY loud. I guess the statement that sums it up for me was made by my 8-year-old daughter near the end of the concert (from which we left a bit early). She said "Mom & Dad, if this comes back next year, I do not want to go, OK ?"
