About

Keys N Krates In Concert

That sweet sound you hear cutting through Keys N Krates' massive trap-rap beats? That's a turntable scratch — a blast from hip-hop's past that bridges the future-forward dance-music trio to their block-rocking history. In fact, Keys N Krates generates their party-starting jams with one of the more unique instrumental formats in contemporary music: David Matisse on keyboards, Adam Tune on live-electronic drums, and Jr. Flo rocking live-electronic turntables.

As a production crew, they crank out a wall of sound that combines foundational dance-floor styles like house and big beat with cutting-edge EDM via meticulous attention to rhythmic tension and release. It all comes together on their debut LP ‘Cura,' released in early 2018 and featuring their strongest work to date.

‘Cura' finds the Toronto-based band building on their deep production skills by teaming up with a handful of breakout singers and emcees. The result expands beyond body-moving groove to border on classic soul, funk, and R&B. Singer/rapper and fellow Toronto musician Tory Lanez collabs on the celebratory "Music to My Ears," New Orleans singer Ambré Perkins coos over the disco-inflected "Glitter," and mellow-throated vocalist 070 Shake helps close out the collection with "My Night." It's a full, immersive album experience that establishes Keys N Krates as ace songwriters as well as innovative producers.

That said, as seen during their 2018 world tour and recent main-stage slots at Ultra Music Festival, Summer Camp, and Electric Forest, the Keys N Krates live experience remains all about getting down. Their history as a live hip-hop band going back to 2008 translates to an almost telepathic onstage connection between Matisse, Tune, and Jr. Flo.

Now, though, Keys N Krates strive for something more than hip-hop. Along with adapted songs from ‘Cura,' their sets pull from 10 years of singles, EPs, and remixes, stretching out and elevating the drama of their recordings into an unforgettable barrage of sound, light, and crowd energy — a dance party for the ages.

Too many hurdles for a show

by KnKFan on 2/10/18Liberty Hall - Lawrence

I bought the tickets months before the show. I was so excited to see Keys N Krates come to Kansas City! The day of the show I got on my email to look up the tickets and I realized that they moved the show. They didn't send out any email or notification at all. They didn't just move the show to a different venue in town, they moved it 45 minutes away. They did this move only 7 days before the show. However, I REALLY wanted to see these guys play, so I still went to the show. We showed up a bit late, it was already 9 o'clock (doors opened at 7, show started at 8). We watched Falcons play until about 9:55 pm, then there was a break for setup. Keys N Krates started playing around 10:15pm and was done at 11:15. This show was supposed to be until midnight. So, now I had to drive 45 minutes there and back for a 2 hour long show. This was very upsetting. Not to mention the fact that Liberty Hall is a MUCH smaller venue than the Uptown Theatre they were supposed to play at. However!!!! Keys N Krates performance was absolutely amazing. These guys put on such a unique performance and I really can't wait to see them again. I just hope next time they play a longer set and they don't have issues with the venues.

Great show and venue! The only thing was that the ticket said 7pm and the show started at 8pm. They should have specified that the doors opened at 7pm.
