    Kelly is better than ever

by jkjva on 6/11/18Birchmere - Alexandria

I have seen Kelly Willis many times at the Birchmere. She has mellowed and doesn't quite hit those soulful country strings, but her performance was fantastic. The band was a joy to watch. Kelly was gracious and mixed in some of the old favorites with those from her new recording. I loved them all. The low points were that Chris Knight ran too long and it seemed the same song over and over all with a depressing theme. The food is not as good as it used to be either. They used to provide pitchers of water and now only bottle for purchase is available. It's still the Birchmere however. All in all a wonderful night listening to one of my favorite country performers!!!!

    Not enough Kelly

    by Donnie612 on 6/27/12Birchmere - Alexandria

Bruce Robison is a very talented performer, however his personality and arrogance completely overwhelmed the showcasing of Kelly Willis' talents. Not enough of the songs were "her" songs and I was disappointed that she took a "backseat" to Robison's lesser talent. I would love to see Kelly Willis as the main performer and not part of this team.

    Need more Kelly

by MarkiePoux on 11/21/11Birchmere - Alexandria

Everyone was excellent, including Robison (who I did not know much about). But I came for Ms. Willis and she was too much in the background.

    Kelly and Bruce are awesome!

    by ncgal55 on 11/21/11Birchmere - Alexandria

We've seen Kelly Willis at the Birchmere before and it was unbelievably awesome! This time is was fantastic too; however, in a different way. If you are looking to hear Kelly Willis this show features both she and Bruce which is fantastic. Don't get me wrong, but you don't hear as much as Kelly so it was slightly disappointing in that sense. But on a positive note I had not hear Bruce and he totally rocks and I bought several of his CD's there and it's great and Kelly's vocal on some of his songs.

Kelly and Bruce- always a great experience

by twinsleigh on 11/21/11Birchmere - Alexandria

What a treat- first Marty Jones and Don Dixon, then Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison. I've been a fan since the 80's for all of them, but this was like an early christmas present!

    Bruce and Kelly were Perfect!

by PaPitt on 11/21/11Birchmere - Alexandria

We had not been to the Birchmere before and were not disappointed with the venue or the performance from the Headliners - Bruce Robinson and Kelly Willis. Both were unknown to us, but I did recognize several of the songs. They were comfortable, chatty, funny, but completely serious about giving the fans a perfect show. No complaints from us except that we wished it lasted about two more songs. The opening act - Marti Jones and husband just didn't connect with us. The crowd was a healthy mix of young and old that engaged with the performers and appreciated their work. the staff at the Birchmere was attentive and respectful during the show. If we had known the theater served dinner, we would have eaten there - the menu looked pretty good!

    Bruce and Kelly rock!

by mitchA on 11/20/11Birchmere - Alexandria

We went to see Marti Jones and Don Dixon- but the Bruce and Kelly show rocked . Their harmonies and vocal contrasts were pure- and their banter made it feel like we were visiting with old friends. Bruce and Kelly and band , featuring a pedal steel, ranged from traditional country ballads, to honkey tonk, to country rock. And Robison's storytelling is sensational. A great show in a great venue.

    Kelly and Bruce were great

by DCBrianM on 11/20/11Birchmere - Alexandria

They were awesome. Energy was great. They interacted with the audience, and seemed like they were having a great time. The Santa Baby request they played was perhaps the best version I have ever heard.

Music, Alcohol, and Friends: A Winning Combination

by dougmunsch on 6/28/11Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

This live performance of Cassie Morgan and the Lonely Pine was my first time hearing her and fellow musician, well done. Given the right mood i'll see her with Kentucky Knife and Pretty Little Empire their next performance July 8th and the Sheldon. Jill Andrews, her performance will be sorely missed. The dozens of youtube videos I listen to during work are all I have now. Online versions of music fail to reproduce what she gives live and what better feat could one accomplish than make the listener sigh and remember what was and hope to see her again. Josh Oliver, supporting member, blends harmonies. I'm not sure what matched the two musically but it is a great pairing of voices. I'd consider making a road trip to see her play. The third band came in with high volume and quicker pace than the soft female voices preceding. It was a great overtone and Chad Gilbert's guitar solos gave St. Louis inisght to great licks. I left a few songs into their performance, only because I had work the next day but would have gladly stayed.
