    poor view

by ron on 1/17/22Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club - Portsmouth

nothing like paying for a live concert and being seated behind a brick wall. Seats were sold as sky bar seating. From our seats we were on the same level as the singer and could not see her. Many people near us experienced the same thing. As a result atmosphere turned into a bar with loud conversation so could hardly hear her. The only way to see a concert here is in the main room, otherwise beware.

I can't say enough good things about Karrin and the band. They were awesome and the Folly is always a treat.

Five of the best musicians in a perfect venue!

by Blancacasa on 5/9/11Folly Theater - Kansas City

I knew I liked some things that Karrin had done and my favorite was "So in Love" on Doug Talley's album where I first heard her and fell "so in love" with the feeling she gave me. I had seen her in an outdoor venue and was not amazed (as I was not amazed with the Kansas City Symphony at Theater in the Park). But this. Two hours of bliss. And as much as I fell "so in love" with Karrin, I think any one of the five musicians, alone, could have put me in the same trance. Matt Wilson did things on drum-set I did not know were possible. Steve Nelson, on vibes, could not have been more original. I will go see Rod Fleeman when he plays with Doug Talley at Cafe Augusta. And probably, the least heard from soloist of the night, Gerald Spaits on bass, will have to thrill me some other night. When he soloed I was certainly not disappointed. There was just not enough time.

Karrin Allyson at her best ever.

by Canadabob on 5/9/11Folly Theater - Kansas City

We make it a point to hear Karrin anytime she is in the area. This show was the best. The side men were outstanding. We had a wonderful evening at the Historic Folly.

    Switch and Bait

by Maybeman on 5/17/10Showcase Live - Foxboro

I was expecting the J.Geils Band with Peter Wolf which is what I thought was promoted but only to find it was a bunch of Old guys playing stand up bass and fretless guitars. I spoke with the manager of Showcase live and asked for my money back he stated that it was not promoted that way. I left and will never go back.

A pleasing show by a group of top-notch musicians. Allyson is versatile and comfortable in a number of genres. It's sad that such a talented artist who has been putting out great albums for 16 years drew such a modest crowd. My only complaint was the lack of an encore, following just an average length set. Was it because of the smallish crowd?

Allyson's allure raises the entertainment value

    by C2K4Jazz on 5/15/10Showcase Live - Foxboro

The overall night was thoroughly enjoyable! The intimate venue was a perfect setting for the dynamic talents of the performers. The performers melded their skills to present an entertaining evening of jazz from days gone by to the present. Karrin Allyson led the way with her command of the stage. Food was delicious and well presented.
