About

JUNIP IN CONCERT:

Swedish trio Junip have been thrilling audiences with their lush folk rock and intimate live performances since forming in the late ‘90s. Combining the sweet sound of Jose Gonzalez’s voice  with Tobia Winterkorn’s synth experimentation, the band creates a full, all-encompassing sound during their shows. Whether Elias Araya is hammering out an intricate percussion solo on “Far Away” or the band is tearing through the beautiful orchestral piece “Line of Fire”, the members of Junip are masters of their craft and always get fans up on their feet whenever they take the stage.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Junip got their start in 1998 when members Jose Gonzalez, Elias Araya, and Tobia Winterkorn began playing music together as a hobby while working full-time jobs. Two years later they released their debut EP Straight Lines, putting their music on the map in the underground indie folk scene. After a short hiatus that saw Gonzalez embark on a solo venture, the band reunited and came out with two more EPs in the ‘00s. Since then Junip has released two full-length records to much acclaim – Fields (2010) and Junip (2013) – toured around the world, and had their music featured in numerous films and television shows. Junip are pioneers in the psychedelic folk genre, and their dark, alluring music continues to bring ticket buyers out in droves to their thrilling live performances.

    excellent A+ -- JUNIP at LA's Troubadour

by AlbertoM on 10/23/13The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

For whatever reason, this show changed venues from the Belasco to the Troubadour. The Troubadour was a perfect setting for Junip. As for Junip, I've listen to them and Jose Gonzalez for several years, and had high expectations. Junip's musicianship and cohesiveness as a band were first rate. A warm, high quality experience.

    Where is the show?

by Madpinto on 10/23/13The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

I love that the headline is still 89.9 KCRW presents Junip at The Belasco Theater. Hey TM, you moved the show to the Troubadour and did a lousy job of telling me. Fortunately, Junip sounded great and the show was enjoyable.

Jose Gonzales' Junip Wows packed Trubadour

by BillCola on 10/23/13The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

The band was tight, loud & appreciative of the enthusiasm shown by this packed house at the Trubadour. They played a nice selection from both albums that sounded great live. Jose does not play any solo guitar or otherwise seek to draw the attention to his amazing musical abilities that we experienced at his solo shows a couple of years ago. But, Junip's music is very satisfying and sounds amazing live!

    Junip at the Troubadour

by nicknackpaddy on 10/23/13The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

As usual, Jose Gonzalez amazed us with his perfect voice and his Nick Drake like playing. The touring band was awesome too...we had a chance to hear James Mathé perform Pagliaccio...pretty amazing musician.

    junip - phenomenal experience

by cmcp on 6/14/13Brighton Music Hall - Boston

totally amazing show. i was immediately in front of the stage and wouldn't have had it any other way. great sound mixing too - the music was just loud enough that it sort of took over your whole body/mind/soul, but not excruciatingly loud that you couldn't hear when you left. jose was kind of stoic, but everything else about him & the music makes up for that easily. the venue size was perfect for this kind of band. overall, awesome!!

I have seen JOse Gonzalez and the band Junip and both shows were amazing! Jose is an incredible talent and with his band produces a unique sound...better in person if you can believe it since the album is incredible!

Junip is definitely worth checking out!

by bflair5 on 6/2/11Brighton Music Hall - Boston

It was neat to hear Junip play live for the first time at a small venue. I love Jose Gonzalez so I had a feeling that the Junip tunes would be pleasing to my ear. I have their 3 CD pack and am enjoying listening to it more now that I've seen the band perform live. It was hard to understand the lyrics at the concert but that is typical of Jose's songs. Once you learn the words it is fun to sing along with him. =) I would totally recommend going to a Junip show if they're in your area.

Awesome! One of the best shows I've seen in a while. I haven't been to this venue since it was still called Harper's Ferry. Not much has changed. It is still a small place, which is great for any show. Junip is amazing. We all wondered what they would be like live. They exceeded our expectations by leaps and bounds. Det var mycket bra Junip! Tack för kvällen!
