Johnny Hallyday - a Living Legend
by OlivierK on 5/20/14House of Blues - HoustonGrowing up in France, I was never a fan of his. However, he has always had the special quality of being able to survive all the music fads, and constantly re-invent himself - all his hits over the years are a testimony to his resilience, and yes, his talent. Johnny Hallyday is no spring chicken, but his stage presence remains electrifying, especially in smaller venues such as HOB. He does not move as much as he used to, does not sweat as he used to, but his voice remains the same, strong presence - a reminder that Johnny has been with us for the last 50 and some years. And his band is probably one of the tightest I've seen in a long time. Another of Johnny's talent has been to surround himself with first rate musicians. In particular, Greg Zlap on the harp is simply phenomenal. The show had to end after about 90 minutes. I was happy to finally have the chance to see him perform live, here in Houston, with my Dallas-born wife who's always been a fan of his, and hear some classics that I did not realize I had forgotten long ago. Hopefully, he will give us the opportunity to see him again in Houston - Johnny Hallyday, a living legend.
