JOHNYY HALLYDAY IN CONCERT:

More than five decades after his debut, legendary French rocker Johnny Hallyday remains a consummate showman, living up to his reputation as France's Elvis Presley with consistently bold performances around the world. Hallyday's love for the stage is all-encompassing – despite a 2009 farewell tour, he hasn't been able to resist his adoring fans, resurfacing intermittently for highly coveted concerts of his greatest hits. His 2012 appearances in New York and LA knocked fans' socks off, bringing anticipation for his 2014 tour dates to a fever pitch.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in Paris, Johnny Hallyday became a European superstar in the '60s with his French-language recordings of Elvis-inspired rock and roll. Along with his signature croon and pompadour-topped good looks, beloved hits like "Let's Twist Again" and "Que Je T'aime" made Hallyday an overnight icon — a status that was only fueled by his outrageous live performances. Over a career that spans half a century, Hallyday has released 41 studio albums, embarked on more than 180 tours, and sold in excess of 100 million records, earning him an almost unrivaled position in French popular culture.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"One of the most entertaining performances I have ever seen - even though I am not fluent in French, this was a tremendously enjoyable show. Easily can understand the ongoing popularity of Johnny, Johnny, Johnny."

"An exceptional performance by an exceptional artist. He was in such great shape, sang his hits from the 60s as well as more recent ones and, of course, the now-classic 'Gabrielle,' 'Diego' etc..."

"Johnny was a ROCKSTAR, singing for almost two hours straight, both old and new songs that the audience loved."

Johnny Hallyday - a Living Legend

by OlivierK on 5/20/14House of Blues - Houston

Growing up in France, I was never a fan of his. However, he has always had the special quality of being able to survive all the music fads, and constantly re-invent himself - all his hits over the years are a testimony to his resilience, and yes, his talent. Johnny Hallyday is no spring chicken, but his stage presence remains electrifying, especially in smaller venues such as HOB. He does not move as much as he used to, does not sweat as he used to, but his voice remains the same, strong presence - a reminder that Johnny has been with us for the last 50 and some years. And his band is probably one of the tightest I've seen in a long time. Another of Johnny's talent has been to surround himself with first rate musicians. In particular, Greg Zlap on the harp is simply phenomenal. The show had to end after about 90 minutes. I was happy to finally have the chance to see him perform live, here in Houston, with my Dallas-born wife who's always been a fan of his, and hear some classics that I did not realize I had forgotten long ago. Hopefully, he will give us the opportunity to see him again in Houston - Johnny Hallyday, a living legend.

Yes, he does look old and I am sure that he dyes his hair but he can still ROCK. What really made the show was his band, very, very good.

    Johny Hallyday is still Johnny

by FrenchieDallas on 5/18/14House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

Incredible at 71 years old Johnny Hallyday is still the idol he was 50 years ago. His voice has not changed. He song some old hits, but also some new ones. His music band is fantastic. A very good success for the French community. Not enough advertising to attract even more people.

    A French Treasure in Houston

by CMinelli on 5/17/14House of Blues Houston - Houston

I don't know if Johnny Hallyday has toured the US before, but a few years ago I flew to Paris to see h I'm concert - in a stadium. To see him the intimate and acoustically highly satisfying Houston House of Blues was a dream come true. At 70 he is every bit the showman that he was years ago. Based on the youth of the audience, I would guess that they grew up listening to Hallyday playing on their parents record and cassette players. I was worried that our SRO tickets would have gotten old, but no. We would not have sat a minute of the concert if we had been in a seat. Bravo!

    heartfelt memories made

by schwinnilla on 5/16/14Beacon Theatre - New York

seeing and hearing johnny hallyday was a revelation...i do not speak or understand french BUT i can feel and that night i experienced goosebumps and tears of happiness...most of the audience were french and it is easy to see why he is a national treasure...he sings and speaks in french and does not kowtow to english speaking audiences...don't get me wrong, there were a few tunes sung in english, but they were hommages to the rockabilly stars who inspired him...johnny hallyday is without a doubt the coolest 70 year old on the planet...and his audience, male and female were unabashed in their love...all he had to do was point and the audience sang the chorus...the beacon theatre is one of the most gorgeous musical arenas in nyc and just being there was an event...the only down side to the evening had nothing to do with the headliner...people are obsessed with their phone cameras and capturing images to share on the social network and i find it appalling, boring, pointless and stupid...LISTEN, be there...just be there...close your eyes and LISTEN...happens everywhere i go and quite frankly, i wish the damned phones would be banned as they are at plays...ANYWAY, am so very glad i attended this event...i can only compare this to the time i saw johnny cash at the house of blues in los angeles...love and adoration rippled through the room...tears...happy tears...memories...thank you mr. hallyday it was a privilege to spend the evening with you

    Notre monument du rock français

by espada on 5/14/14The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater - Miami Beach

The concert was very good and Johnny as usual excellent and at ease on stage .He was surrounded by a group of fantastic musicians The only drawback was the sound at the beginning of the concert , we could not hear him well until it was rectified soon after .I will also add that a big screen would have been good too , today we are used to these giant screens

An evening of great rock n' roll!!

by BelleAtlantic on 5/10/14Beacon Theatre - New York

This event was an evening of great rock n' roll. Johnny's band is really tight. I highly enjoyed the concert, and I don't even speak (much) French! Johnny is a true star and I couldn't take my eyes off him. If you have a chance to see this legend, take it! Je l'aime!
