About

Johnny Gill on Tour

The first thing that becomes apparent at a Johnny Gill show is just how much his fans adore him. But it's a two-way street, with Gill feeding off that feeling and giving it right back to the crowd. It all adds up to one big love fest, as he delivers hits like "Rub You the Right Way" and "Fairweather Friend" along with tunes from his time with New Edition in the 1980s, like "Boys to Men" and "Can You Stand the Rain," and even a little something from his tenure with R&B supergroup LSG. When he's breathing new life into his early hits, Gill brings to bear a creamy croon that seems remarkably undiminished by time. A consummate showman first and last, he puts his all into every show, getting the audience eating from the palm of his hand as he delivers sensual slow jams and party starters alike.

Johnny Gill in Concert

One of the great R&B voices to come to the fore in the '90s belongs to a Baptist minister's offspring who began by belting out gospel tunes in church as a child. Johnny Gill released his first solo album in 1983 when he was still just a teenager. A little later, Gill was tapped by the original R&B boy band, New Edition, to add his supple, expressive voice to their fold. But it was his self-titled 1990 album for Motown that really made Gill a household name. With hits like "My, My, My" and "Rub You the Right Way," he established himself as an artist who could blend a steamy, slow-jam style with the new jack grooves that were emerging in that era. Later on, Gill experienced even greater success by becoming part of the supergroup LSG along with Keith Sweat and Gerald Levert. But eventually he shifted back to solo mode, to give his fans the completely unadulterated dose of Johnny Gill they demand.

    HE DID NOT DISAPPOINT! WOW!

by smedina146 on 2/20/24Emerald Queen Casino - Tacoma

Johnny has been my favorite R&B singer for decades, and it's always been my dream to see him live. Thank God he came back to the EQC in Tacoma! I was in row2 center stage, so I got a great look at all his smooth dance moves; he's still got it! Sure, he did some other songs with NE, but I just love anything he sings. I think the concert should be longer, but that guy must be exhausted as is. I'm just greedy that way. Some might not have liked that he had what some were callin "church", but not me! I LOVED IT!!! THAT MESSAGE WAS DIRECTLY FOR ME!! I BAWLED THROUGH THAT WHOLE PART! I was so blessed at that very moment, I could hardly contain it. He's a natural preacher! I did not mind what so ever that he took that detour. Johnny was a special treat on Valentine's Day with my Fiance, and we were head over heels with Johnny and his AMAZING talent. I'd see him again, easily! Thank you Johnny for coming to Tacoma. I live in Lakewood and the EQC was just 15 minutes away. You are a gift from God. Keep doin what you do. Im a forever Fan (psssst... can we get Charlie Wilson to come along for a special appearance or even a show of his own as well? I'd go to both!)

My My My What a Disappointment

by Jen on 2/20/24Emerald Queen Casino - Tacoma

He barely sang. It was mostly the band playing and him throwing a few lines in here and there. He didn’t even sing the My, My, My (the most popular) and wanted the crowd to sing it. He also preached on stage for over 30min and Inpaid to see him sing, not come to a gospel service.

    Exceptional Show!!!

by Tony M. on 2/19/24Emerald Queen Casino - Tacoma

Johnny Gill is one of the most dynamic performers that I have seen. His show was high energy from the start to the finish. His performance spoke volumes as to the joy he felt for his fans. I need to go see New Edition at their Las Vegas Residency! Go see Johnny Gill, if he comes to your city.

    Too short

by MJ on 2/17/24Emerald Queen Casino - Tacoma

Short, he didn't even sing the entire song, then sung other people song. Then wanted to have church in the middle of a concert

Amazing show! I’ve been a fan for decades and this show didn’t disappoint. Hope that he comes back soon. My only suggestion would be to have a meet and greet before or after the show. I would definitely pay a premium for this and I’m confident others would as well!
