The conductor was great, the orchestra was great, and the choir was great. The special guests were also great. The location really helped--the Walt Disney Concert Hall was built for sound, and this was the best listening experience my fiancee's ever had. It was a wonderful music selection also.
On the last day of my vacation I beeing a movie soundtrack fan visited this great concert. The conductor and all of the musicians were enthusiastic about their work and one could feel their spirit for music.
A perfect venue for an amazing group and awesome conductor.
It was an excellent presentation and look forward to future shows! Seats are pretty tight of your not slim just FYI on that or if your seating between two tall large men it can get pretty cramped and warm. My hubby is about 6'1 so seating was not ideal for him or other tall men.
I really enjoyed this concert. The orchestra was amazing and the Cal Phil Chorale was wonderful too. I enjoyed hearing Carmina Burana and works by John WIlliams. My favorite was E.T. Adventures on Earth and Stars Wars theme song.
Victor Vener is an amazing conductor. His choices of John Williams scores, as well as a splash of classical pieces that are often used in movies, made for a great listening experience. But what made the performance stand out, is Victor Vener's humor, wit, and teaching moments, which draws the audience into the performance, like non I have experienced before. It was FABULOUS, and would go see more of Victor Vener and the California Philharmonic.
Paid a lot of money for great seats. Awesome orchestra. OK choir. However, we chose this concert to hear John Williams music exclusively. Instead, we heard other classical pieces in addition to JW tunes. Then the conductor cut a song from Amistad after a huge build up leaving the audience bewildered and unsatisfied. I wish he would have candidly explained the error. Anyway, love the orchestra, the venue, the seats, but the program was HUGELY disappointing.
The CA Phil is full of amazingly-talented musicians. The quality of the music was superb. The conductor is personable and funny and we enjoyed his quick talks in between the pieces. Highlights: - Tribute to the US Armed Forces before playing Hymn to the Fallen (Saving Private Ryan) - Father (cello)/son (violin) duo led the theme to Schindler's LIst
The selections were wonderfully varied and beautifully performed. The Dennis and Max Karmazyn cello and violin duet, the clarinet soloist in the performance of "Terminal" and the glorious sound of the Cal Phil Chorale with the orchestra was breathtaking. However, was disappointed conductor Victor Verner cut " Dry Your Tears, Africa". If it was for lack of time, I strongly suggest he spend less time talking to audience between pieces. Other than that a big BRAVO!
