J Williams out of this World at the Hollywood Bowl

by TheTolucaGuy on 8/29/11Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

John Williams knocked it out of the park as always Saturday evening (8/27) at The Hollywood Bowl. Wonderful medleys of Movie Music, and of course many of his own compositions. Any time a note of STAR WARS score was played, ignited nearly 2000 light sabres throughout the 18,0000 seat venue. Included was a medley of the score form THE RIEVERS with James Taylor doing the narration originally done by Burgess Meredith. Other Notable Williams Scores were HARRY POTTER, E.T. (final encore) and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Most notable was a 7 minute clip from "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." First shown as Williams would narrate without music and only rough dialog track. The next time the full power of the LA Philharmonic was added as WiIliams conducted the underscore and introduction of the main INDY theme. A wonderful evening under the balmy night sky, with narr so much as a single helicopter or small plane to intrude the airspace, which has been the case in the past at the Bowl.

    Great Composer and Great Orchestra

by HugeCCRFan on 7/23/11Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts - Pittsburgh

Song after superb song written by a tremendous composer and performed by one of the best symphony orchestras in the nation simply sums up the evening. Performed were songs from Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., Indiana Jones, Schindler's List, Memoiers of Geisha along with others. Mr. Williams shared a number of very interesting stories about the movies and the composing of a number of songs along with his interaction with movie directors. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra was as usual, superb. A very enjoyable evening.
