John Oliver is an Emmy and Writer's Guild Award-winning writer, comedian, and host of the HBO show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. On his occasional breaks from television, John returns to his first love of stand-up, performing to sold-out venues around the world.
From 2006-2013, he was a correspondent on the multi-award winning The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, guest-hosting the show for two months during Stewart's absence in 2013.
After co-hosting the weekly satirical podcast The Bugle with Andy Zaltzman until 2015 and starring in his first stand-up special John Oliver: Terrifying Times, John went on to host four seasons of his own stand-up series for Comedy Central, John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show, which featured a handpicked selection of his favorite comedians.
Oliver voices the character Zazu in the 2019 Disney film The Lion King and will voice a character in the 2019 Paramount film Amusement Park, following previous guest roles including Danger Mouse, Community, The Smurfs, The Smurfs 2, Bob's Burgers, The Simpsons, The Detour, and Rick & Morty.
Enjoyed the show so much. He was hilarious both scripted and unscripted. Loved the dynamics with the audience and with Seth Meyers’s.
John Oliver’s show didn’t disappoint. He and Seth Meyers (and their opening comic) at The Beacon Theater were great! Each have a slightly different sense of humor, style and personality but nonetheless all were terrifically entertaining. Together they delivered a funny show. Also enjoyed their Q and A session that followed. Oliver is now an American citizen -yay- so definitely Britain’s loss!
My husband and I are huge John Oliver and Seth Myers fans, so I surprised him with tickets to the show for his birthday. While we agree with their political views on their shows (obviously, or we wouldn't be fans) I was actually so pleased that there was very little mention of the current political climate of our country, and all the jokes were lighthearted and fun! Both performed for almost an hour each. My face and abs were hurting from laughing so hard. I loved how they both came out at the end to take questions from the audience, but unfortunately we couldn't stay for all of it as we had to catch the train home. But we had such a great time at the show!
The Beacon is beautiful. Special place. John Oliver is funny, relevant and thought-provoking. Brilliant set. Seth Myers also funny in a lighter way. Excellent balance between the two. Highly recommended.
John was very funny. I love his story telling and historical anecdotes. Definitely see him if you want a smart, quality authentically funny night out.
Absolutely laughed the whole time. Was exactly what I was hoping for.
John Oliver was on point -- as always, delivered wit and a "tsk-tsk", packaged in just the right way so that you felt that we're all in it together in the journey. Seth Meyers was approachable and likable -- wouldn't have minded for him to pack a bigger punch. Overall, they balance each other well and have you laughing from start to finish.
John Oliver’s stand up performance is even better than Last Week Tonight! Can’t wait to see him again!
John Oliver and Seth Meyers are such amazing comedians. The show was very enjoyable and hilarious. They had their unique styles, which made it even better. It was like going to two different shows in one night. I highly recommend it - you'll get double the laughs and entertainment, more bang for your buck ;).
Both comedians did a great job, their jokes and comments were funny, current and they seemed to connect well with the audience. Each of them had a different theme for their portion of the show, so it did not feel like we heard the same stuff the entire show. Highly recommended.
