    Blues 4 Ever!

by hrwolfe on 3/28/22The Canyon Agoura Hills - Agoura Hills

It's and Honor to be able to say "I caught one of his Last Shows." I did catch his last pass through, he had Carol Wonderland then as well, I'd hoped to see Walter Trout stop by but we'll take what we can get. I'd like to thank Me. Mayall for all the music over all these years, God Bless and Thank You!

    Disappointed

by K. G. on 3/15/22Bally's Lake Tahoe - South Lake Tahoe

The make-up of the band was great. All very accomplished. John is way past his prime and unfortunately showing significant signs of dementia. Also expected more harmonica than 1 song.

Best show of the Year for me, a Legend and Walter F..... Tro

by Deadhead Rick on 12/20/21MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa - South Lake Tahoe

Walter Trout blew me away, plus i meet someone outside puffing on a Doobie. Told me about his Liver issues. I started following the DEAD in '77' love music and Guitar. How in the h... did i miss this guy. I think he might be faster than Johnny Winter and that is saying an awful considering he is my favorite guitar player right new to Jerry

    Good but not great

by cookingmomster on 12/16/21The Canyon Montclair - Montclair

The artist who we really came to see was Walter Trout and he did not disappoint. He was just as great when we saw him a few years ago. He plays a mean guitar then and still today. As for John Mayall at age 88, he appeared lost and confused during his performance. Highly disappointed, he may wish to retire. The Canyon in Montclair has not changed their seating arrangements since the last time we were there 3 years ago. Too many seats are placed at the long tables that you end to rubbing elbows with your neighbors. The temperature inside the venue felt like the temperature outside. It was freezing and most guest kept their coats on. Not enough servers, so you had to go up to the bar for your drinks. When our food finally arrived, it wasn’t even warm. The manager apologized for the poor service, since no one wants to work nowadays. He ended up bringing our desserts to our table. We will not be returning to this venue again.

One of the coolest venue I've ever been too. Great sound, intimate, It was a true pleasure to see Mr. John Mayall and band. Then the bonus was Walter Trout. I will be back down to see another show. Check them out.

John Mayall at The Canyon Montclair

by Kevin on 1/27/20The Canyon Montclair - Montclair

WARNING DO NOT BUY SEATS AT THE CENTER TABLES WITHIN FOUR SEATS OF THE STAGE. THESE ARE VIRTUALLY UNUSABLE SEATS AND YOU WON’T HEAR ANYTHING EXCEPT THE AMPLIFIER DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF YOU. The Good; John Mayall was spot on playing the great songs that established the British Blues. Caroline Wonderland demonstrated her style that has won her so much attention…if I could have heard her (I had to keep leaving my seat to go to the back of the room to hear anything). The Bad; Sound system set up and design; please note, the quality wasn’t bad, when you could hear it, but the placement of the speaker arrays was so fundamentally flawed it boggles the mind. A junior high school AV team knows better than this. The venue insist on selling seat at tables pushed up to the stage…this could be good under the right circumstances but they’ve completely blown this and made it not only a bad situation but a tortuous one. The Line arrays left and right are wide and there is no side fills on stage leaving an incredible void in the sound for the front tables, and this is a gross understatement (well, there were some small JBL’s on stage, but weren’t in use…why? God only knows). The second issue is a backline that is farther forward than it needs to be. Sure, if you buy seats right up front, prepare to have amps blaring in your face but this is so extreme you’re relegated to have only whatever you’re in front of drilled into your head…in our case bass. Side fills on stage and small line arrays overhead have become standard in venues like this that put the audience pretty much on stage…and these augmentations are not expensive; they’re just there to fill in the holes. Why they haven’t done this? Once again; God only knows. Until this venue addresses this gross oversight and announces to the public they’ve improved their sound system…I would stay away.
