    Wonderful Story Night

by Jesswa on 11/14/13Clowes Hall - Indianapolis

Just a wonderful night with a great storyteller. He takes you from family history to stories in a seamless way that give you even more investment in the stories. The simple set with easy chair, lamp, stool and a couple of tables are well used to add to the effect of the storytelling without ever being a distraction. I had both belly laughs and teary moments throughout the night. And I had seen the show before. And if I have the opportunity, I'll see it again.

It was a delight to watch Mr. Lithgow perform in such a small venue. He intertwined amusement and heartache perfectly. On behalf of other attendees, I regretted alcohol was served. The fast pace and subtle jokes were better suited for an audience fully sober than inebriated.

John's storytelling passion and superb acting brought each character to life. Very entertaining.

    Lithgow

by Anonymous on 11/12/13Clowes Memorial Hall - Indianapolis

His first monolog was great and was well received. His second (Haircut) was less well received due to its dated topics and reference to events and actions that are not generally appreciated in today's world. Still, it was well presented as the type of gossip that was prevalent in that era.

Half as long for half the price

by ladyjerusalem on 11/11/13Clowes Hall - Indianapolis

My husband and I were really excited to see John Lithgow, as we are both HUGE fans, and I am a retired actor myself. We were seated in the perfect location in Clowes Hall at Butler, a little over halfway back on the main floor. We paid about $63 a ticket, and felt it was worth it to see John Lithgow. However, the excitement dissipated almost immediately. The sound was almost non-existent. Going in, I didn't know if Lithgow would even be miked because he's a pretty established theatre buff and the venue is not that large. However, he WAS miked, and we still could not hear him. I couldn't make out most of what he was saying (and I'm in my 30's, not my 60's). A combination of the low lighting and mumbling made me nod off more than once. After about 30 minutes, and sound got a little better, and the rest of the first act was quite good and funny, making me wish I could have heard the entire thing. Then came the second act. I am positive that I am not alone in thinking the second act was a complete and total waste of ticket money. The second story was somewhat charming, but was not the kind of material that made Lithgow shine. It was excruciatingly boring, and, aside from a lame chuckle or two, no one laughed at all in the second act. In fact, I witnessed several people nodding off. In all, had I known what I was going to, I probably would have opted not to go, especially at the ticket price. A pretty big disappointment.

    JohnLithgow Evening

by Lyn4035 on 4/22/13E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - Akron

I enjoyed the event with John Lithgow because it was JOHN LITHGOW! :-) However, I really signed up to hear him speak about How to Tell A Story. I thought it would have been a great event for my kids (who are juniors in high school) to listen. Communication is important and telling a story (whether for fun or for work related) is a critical trait these days to have. His story was interesting, but I really attended for something else. However, I would stil attend in the future to hear him
