About

JOHN KADLECIK IN CONCERT:

For the past two decades venerable singer, guitarist, and diehard Deadhead John Kadlecik has been blowing minds with his phenomenal musical chops as both a solo artist and as a member of several Grateful Dead offshoots. Kadelick is famous for his ability to improvise with the best of them, and he keeps the feel-good riffs flowing as he powers through jam after extended jam at his marathon live shows. Whether he’s tearing through originals or paying tribute to the late great Jerry Garcia with rollicking Dead covers , Kadlecik keeps ticket buyers transfixed with his virtuosic musicianship and seriously groovy onstage energy.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Iowa-born John Kadlecik studied classical violin before teaching himself guitar in high school. After playing in several garage bands he discovered a love for jazz and folk, and before long his knack for improvisation led to a full-time gig with jam-based folk rock outfit Hairball Willie. After releasing an album and touring extensively with the group, Kadlecik went on to co-found the Grateful Dead tribute band Dark Star Orchestra in 1997. The group garnered attention for Kadlecik’s uncanny ability to emulate Jerry Garcia’s singing and playing style, and throughout the '00s former Grateful Dead members were reguarly joining Dark Star Orchestra on stage. After recording and touring for nearly two decades, Kadlecik left DSO and formed the band Further with former Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh. Since then he has continued to honor the Grateful Dead’s legacy with Further in addition to his solo performances with the John K Band.

    John Kadlicek Band is awesome

by Kalhoun on 12/6/15Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

For those who love The Jerry Garcia Band and the eclectic mix of musical classics, including songs from the Grateful Dead catalog, Beatles, Traffic, Dylan, and so many others. The John Kadlicek Band is as close I have ever heard to that wonderful sound Jerry and his friends made. The show in Atlanta opened with Mr. Fantasy and wound its way though a set of well played Americana. The band is professional, exceptionally talented, and fully integrated, working as one to not recreate original sounds but to reinvent them. Mary Landford on second guitar showed her chops, playing a soulful sound while creating some beautiful licks.

The Howard Theater is a great venue with excellent sound. We liked sitting in one of the VIP booths also and hope you offer VIP seating at other future events. I loved hearing John Kadlecik play the songs Señor, Run For The Roses and Cats Under The Stars!

Loved it, great way to celebrate Jerry's birthday. The Howard theater is pretty pricey, but a great time nonetheless.
