    Choreography missed the mark…

by CAfromMich on 10/26/15Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

As a musician, I feel that Delibes wrote his ballet music picturing in his head classic ballet of his time. The music was gorgeous in this performance, the dancing wonderful as usual. But to ignore what the music was telling the dancers to do and to have them dangling their arms, sticking angular arms and legs into the air, rolling on the floor and failing to interpret the music left me cold. I wish I could see what the early choreography in Paris did with this music. The horn hunting calls and the dancing of the huntresses was a high point. Is this progress in choreography??

    Sylvia the Joffrey Ballet

    by Englishrose10 on 10/25/15Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

An outstanding performance of a ballet that is rarely performed. We were awestruck by the dance, the music and the costumes and how they related to the story. Thought it may be hard to follow but the scenes were so fluid and captivating that as the story unfolded we followed the story of this masterpiece with a true appreciation of the art of dance and music. Loved the minamilistic scenery and short pre-performances on stage. Bravo Joffrey Ballet and Chicago Symphony Orchestra! Superb performance!

    sylvia was disappointing

by sherivv on 10/22/15Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

Sylvia did not convey the story or emotion very well. I know they are trying to create a modern ballet, but the bulky costumes hid so much of the beauty and possible skill of the dancers. i was not impressed with the difficulty level either. I paid 155 dollars per ticket and feel i did not get my money's worth. I wish Othello was not retired...best show every!!
