About

JOEY MORANT IN CONCERT:

Jazz musicians are often at their best and most dynamic when seen in the flesh, and longtime trumpet master Joey Morant is a case in point. For decades the South Carolina native has been mesmerizing concertgoers with his lively horn playing and skillful scat singing. Morant performs with a vigorous kick in his step, rivaling younger artists' onstage energy as he encourages ticket buyers to sing and clap along. In addition to his stellar trumpet chops, Morant is also well-known for his humorous stories and unbelievably spot-on Louis Armstrong interpretations. Combined with his incredible musical prowess, it all adds up to one must-see live show.

BACKGROUND SNAPHOT:

Joey Morant is one of the world's premier trumpet players and jazz maestros, affectionally -- and appropriately -- referred to as "Mr. Entertainer" by fans. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Morant infuses a healthy dose of southern flair and spiritual blues into his sound, evoking the musicianship of jazz greats like Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie. Morant learned to play the trumpet in his elementary school band and went on to study music theory at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. Over the course of his long and stellar career he has traveled the world and performed as a soloist in both big band and orchestra settings, including the Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Harlem Blues & Jazz Band. He has won Showtime at the Apollo, performed for Queen Elizabeth, and received critical praise for a deeply moving 2001 tribute at Ground Zero following the 9/11 attacks. Morant has also held his own playing with legendary music icons like Paul McCartney, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, and James Brown. His first and only recording, Better Late Than Never, was released in 1998 to positive reviews, but it's on stage where Morant's genius truly comes alive and captivates listeners' hearts.
