Joe Jackson's bigger band is a better band live!

by Cruu on 10/24/12Keswick Theatre - Glenside

The Duke album is quite a departure for Joe, with a lot more synthesized elements that one would expect. The live performance of these songs was more acoustic and so superior to the album that it makes a good argument for the release of a live album of the Duke Ellington songs using the musicians assembled for the tour. It was especially enjoyable to hear some of the old favorites adapted to violin, bass and tuba. The tuba opening to an acoustic Is She Really Going Out With Him was memorably apt and refreshing.

Joe Jackson should stick to a smaller band

    by SP58 on 10/3/12Keswick Theatre - Glenside

I love Joe so this came as a surprise that i would rate this show so poorly. First off; sadly the Keswick sucks to see a show at! Poor seats, too close together, just kinda crummy. Easy parking though. I only saw Joe one time before at Atlantic City in a three piece inc. I believe the orig drummer and bassist. It was energetic, included fantastic song renditions and just perfect. Plus it was the Rain tour so it def. was on fire. As for this show, it was mostly the Duke stuff, and Ellington is fine with me; but really was out dated and Joe's versions were like a cheeky high school rendition with the added bonus of a sub par bluegrass band. Just did not work and i should know being such a fan of all music. If it had been Bela` Fleck doing Duke that would have been great. Band was sub par, sound quality was very poor, just not great. Joe did do this usual classics but even "Different for Girls" was just different from good! I know he still has it but it didn't show in this show!

Joe Jackson and the Bigger Band - amazing show!

by Angelauric on 9/23/12Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Great show - Joe Jackson is an excellent performer, and he had a great backing band with amazing talent. They played songs from JJ's Ellington tribute album The Duke, plus many favorites from other albums.

    joe was great venue wasn't

by eamador on 9/20/12keswick theatre - glenside

great show, joe doing great stuff off the new album and some of the old ones too, we had great seats few rows back from stage, great visual, but there was a weird echo throught the entire show, its definitely the venue, we got up to get drinks and while standing at the rear, the sound was great, but the closer you got to the stage you started hearing the echo, weird, wasn't crazy about venue, but show was great

    Joe Mixes it up Again

    by Ozzie19 on 9/20/12Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Amazing show. Incorporated the new Duke songs with his eternal classics - kind of like Joe Jackson mashed with Santana. Everyone was masterful, and Sue on the bongos stole the show - loved every second!

Joe Jackson - band or no band!

    by HBK10S on 9/20/12Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Joe Jackson was terrific with his soulful piano ballads as well as with his big and bigger band! He played a great mix of his old, nostalgic-evoking music as well as his newer music. It was obvious that the entire audience enjoyed it and that included me!

    One helluva performance

by lovethekeswick on 9/20/12Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Joe Jackson and his Bigger Band did not disappoint! From the Duke Ellington mashups to his crowd-pleasing chart toppers and all the songs in between, it was a great show. Energetic. Eclectic. Full of heart. Fun. He still has a strong voice and you can tell he loves an audience. To a person, the band members were as versatile as they were talented. Especially the percussionist. I'm there for their next local performance.
