About

Joan Manuel Serrat on Tour

Joan Manuel Serrat -- also known as "El Nano" and "El Noi del Poble-sec" --  is an internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter whose music transcends language, distance and time. Some of his most popular songs include "Cantares," "La Mujer Que Yo Quiero," and "Tu Nombre Me Sabe a Yerba." He initially became famous for his political activism in the 1960s, using folk music as a platform to criticize the Spanish Civil War in passionate verse and song. Serrat's musicalized poetry was an instant success and would eventually shape modern music in both Spanish and Catalan languages. The album Dedicado a Antonio Machado, Poeta (1969) was a commercial triumph that earned widespread acclaim throughout Spain and Latin America, sending Serrat on tour for the first time in celebration. After winning first place at the Rio de Janeiro World Music Festival for his performance of "Penelope," the release of Mediterráneo in 1971 solidified the artist worldwide. Serrat pioneered the Catalonian "Nova Cançó" and received a medal from the Spanish government in 1995 for his incredible contributions to culture. In 2000, he was awarded a Medal of the Century by the Spanish Association of Authors and Editors (SGAE) to recognize his excellency in songwriting and celebrate his career achievements. To experience music that moves you, watch Joan Manuel Serrat live in concert as he continues to tour the Americas. It's a show you won't want to miss.

Joan Manuel Serrat in Concert

Born in Barcelona on December 27, 1947, Joan Manuel Serrat began playing music as young as 17 after getting his first guitar. In 1964, before the age of 20, a guest appearance on a radio show led to a record deal with the local label Edigsa, for which he recorded his first EP the following year. His first live performance on stage took place in 1966 at the Catalan Music Palace, but it would be another decade until Americans could see Joan Manuel Serrat on tour for the first time after he crossed over in 1976 to perform in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Audiences became enamored with the Spanish musician's vocal range and lyrical style -- even those who couldn't understand his Spanish lyrics -- and quickly lined up to watch Serrat in concert to perform his wheelhouse of folk, Latin pop and classical genres.

The most cathartic experience ive ever had

    by Josh on 5/5/22

Upon seeing this man, I immediately burst into tears, this was the sound of my childhood, the voice that got me through a near fatal accident, the man who single-handedly kept me sane during trying times. Even in his late 70’s he had this grace and youthful energy about him. He radiated power and comfort in one. He even danced to the music at his advanced age. The stories and poetry he shared was of pure beauty. I wish he wasn't retiring because I pay anything to see him again.

    Top spanish language musical poetry

by LegendsWatcher on 5/3/22James L Knight Center - Miami

JMS continues to be one of the singing Legends of the spanish language . We all sang along his top hits of the past 50 years. His interpretations were as poetic as his words between songs. Now, on his farewell tour, his fans can't afford not to see him.

    EXCITING JMS AT ITS BEST!!!

by RIKKI on 5/3/22James L Knight Center - Miami

We are a group of ten people, five couples, all JMS lovers. When we learned about this farewell tour back in December, 6 months ago, we started planning to attend the concert in NYC. But when we learned the show was also in Miami, we switched our plans to Miami, as it is far closer to our home in Merida, so we got our show tickets and plane and hotel reservations. We will also attend the shows here in Mexico (Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City). And now we are also planning to attend his final final show in Barcelona in December. The only thing short IMHO was him singing my favourite “La Saeta”, but what the heck! I can play it here at home any time I want!

    The greatest among the greats.

    by N. W. on 5/3/22

Joan Manuel Serrat is simply unique and unrepeatable. The lyrics of his songs do not expire in time and he always has the perfect tone that he gives them when he interprets them as only he knows how to do. As one of his millions of followers, I have carried his songs impregnated on my skin and in my soul since my early youths and having the opportunity of enjoying him on stage, which he dominates like no one else, was a blessing. I love you Serrat. GRACIAS SERRAT!!! Also Ticketmaster made that chance easier. Thanks.
