    Blown Away

by glah on 5/18/14Rough Trade - Brooklyn

I dragged three friends to see this woman they've never heard of. Frankly even tho I really like her music, I didn't know if she would "deliver" for them. They were blown away, we all were. Rough Trade is a fantastic venue to see a performance in, and she was so rockin, so musical, soulful, beautiful. For me it was like being stoned, and I was stone cold sober!! Just a really funky show, giving and giving, and super interesting. There are some shows where I get to a certain point and I've had enough, With her, I just wanted to see what she was going to sing and do next. Great stuff. So glad I saw.

Joan is one of the hardest working women in music business. Her brand of music is at once accessible and yet uniquely recognizable; much of that recognition lies in her incredibly sensuous vocals. At Rough Trade, she seemed relaxed, albeit a bit tired (she spoke of how glad she was to be home after her European tour), but it didn't show in her performance. She navigated the stage between keys and guitar like an obstacle course, and I loved that she played her violin in three of her songs. Her encore performance of The Classic, a gorgeous a cappella doo woop number, was a memorable way of ending the show. Although I wish the success she's garnered in Europe translated to more ticket sales in the States, I also enjoy her like this, in a small venue, feeling as if she's performing in an intimate space, just for me.

Joan As Police Woman rocked the house!!

by BirdGurl21 on 5/9/14Rough Trade NYC - Brooklyn

Joan As Police Woman is amazing to see live. Multi-talented with a wide range of instruments, voice with soul, attitude of fun and spunk -- total entertainment! Buy her albums, especially the latest one THE CLASSIC -- such innovative sound while being so instantly lovable! My 1 and a half year old daughter even dances to it -- and demands it on replay.

    Joan is a beautiful badass

by gayoso on 4/18/11Mercury Lounge - New York

The show was great. The band was tight, passionate and delicate at the same time. Joan was sexy and confident. At one point some weirdo from the audience threw a thong on stage and she wore it like a crown. SUCH GOOD ENERGY! I love this woman. And I danced my ass off the entire time.

Joan & Mercury Lounge an ideal combination

by NOThom on 4/18/11Mercury Lounge - New York

First time seeing Joan As Police Woman live, and first time at Mercury Lounge. The room seemed to fit the band perfectly! Intimate and friendly but still Joan ruled the audience. While the rest of the band was laid-back (in a good sense IMO), Joan was bursting with energy; something which came through equally much in the slow and gentle songs as in the more rock-like parts. Mostly songs from the the new album, but a few old ones fitted well into the set. The live performance really added something to the studio recordings - one of the thrills of going to a concert. To top it of, Joan appeared to be truly engaged in her audience, commenting back on whatever was said from the crowd, and chatting with people after the show.

Joan as Policewoman plays arresting set

by Arrested on 4/16/11Mercury Lounge - New York

Dressed in a provocative black leather jumpsuit and black leather boots, with black eyeliner, her hair black and her eyes dark, Joan attacked her keyboard, drove her guitar, and led her tight and talented two-man rhythm section through a captivating and powerful set. At times delicate and beautiful, at other times fierce and a force to be reckoned with, Joan Wasser was all that is beautiful, vulnerable, sexual, and moving about rock and roll.

I wish she played in NYC more often because she is one of the best musicians out there. Her albums completely move me and her live shows are amazing, entertaining, and just fun!
