    STUNNING

by Nanphoenix on 4/19/16Arcadia Blues Club - Arcadia, CA

Brilliant mastery of the guitar and beautiful flowing instrumental songs. Highest recommendation. The drum solo was astounding.

There is no sound Jimmy Thackery can't get out of the car--he is a guitar genius of the highest order. What an exciting evening.

    Jimmy Thackery and Deanna Bogart

by HumidorGuitars on 10/17/10Birchmere - Alexandria

I was hyped to see these two bands, but I ended up being somewhat disappointed. Bogart is a wonderfully talented woman, but I just could not get into her style of music, just a little too jazzy for me. Quality music but not my style. Jimmy Thackery is another highly skilled musician, and I was hoping to hear some really great blues and R&B. The set opened up wonderfully, but turned into less blues and more "I don't know what exactly". Both bands seemed to turn every song into a jam session with each member playing long, extended riffs that seemed to go on forever. I found myself getting bored and hoping the current song would end an the next song would begin. The dual drummer shtick was awesome and the highlight of the evening!! The final jam with both bands would up almost being better than each band individually. As is often the case, the volume level was way too loud for the size of the room. I will bring ear plugs with me to any future performances. My ears were literally ringing till around noon the next day. I realize this is common practice at smaller venues, but it was loud to the point of pain. The food at Birchmere was good, and the venue can't be beat. Small, cozy, with every seat a good seat. Would I recommend the Birchmere to anyone? Absolutely! Would I recommend Jimmy Thackery or Deanna Bogart? Probably not. I am sure that both band are someone's cup of tea, just not mine.

    Too Loud!

by Chocolatinha on 10/17/10Birchmere - Alexandria

James Thackery guitar playing was incredible and his principal drummer is a skilled singer and very fine at his instrument; however I felt as if my ears were being assaulted. Really this is as much the fault of the band leader - really has everyone in my generation gone deaf? - as the sound engineers. The birchmere is a wonderful venue and I love the intimacy of it, but the noise level must be moderated accordingly. It was at a very uncomfortable noise level and I felt as if Led Zepelin, Pink Floyd and Dick Dale were all there. What was the point of 2 drummers following the very same beats except to produce more sound (noise)??!!! If Thackery can bring the noise level down so that we could appreciate his virtuosity and the occasional singer's enjoyable contributions, i would give them five stars.

    Deanna's versatility lives on!

    by Fastwalker113 on 10/17/10Birchmere - Alexandria

We came to see Deanna. Her talent is tremendous; from keyboard to sax and her vocal strength, her energy and showmanship grab you instantly. Only wish she were the headliner. The men who followed have their own followers. Jimmy and company are talented, yes, but we all find them way too loud and harsh. We have stayed for three or four numbers in both this 2010 show and back in 2008 and then head out into the peaceful night wishing again for more Deanna.

    It was deafening

by quahzn on 10/17/10Birchmere - Alexandria

I didn't particularly enjoy either Deanna Bogart or Jimmy Thackery. However, both were judged in the context that they were so loud that it was deafening. We purchased ear plugs, but it was still uncomfortable. We spent most of the evening listening from outside the 'concert hall'. I wonder if all the concerts at Birchmere are so loud.

Great, but not enough Thackery riffs

by riversnake on 10/17/10Birchmere - Alexandria

I saw Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers a couple of years ago and that show was awesome. Jimmy Thackery is a great guitar player and I love to hear him go at it. This time he had a larger crew and while the sax player was good, he took time away from Jimmy. I don't think the extra drummer added anything and overall, the sound level was too high.
