Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, with the Pied Pipers.

by TonySOA on 3/21/12Tilles Center Concert Hall - Greenvale

Lacked punch and drive of a good big band. Vocals, harmony good, but not crisp and clear. Rarely were my feet tapping, or my fingers snapping.

    Great show!

by mybellarose on 3/21/12Tilles Center Concert Hall - Greenvale

I went with my dad who remembers Jimmy Dorsey's original band well! He loved the show -- all the people seemed to enjoy themselves - bringing back memories from their youth! People were singing and swaying. The band played for about 2-1/2 hours. Nicely done.

    Booo, Hisss

by joefloralpark on 3/21/12Tilles Center Concert Hall - Greenvale

Very disappointing performance. Amplification way too loud. Melodies played with too much of a jazzy twist, some not even close to original songs.

Jimmy Dorsey / Pied Pipers Simply Amazing...

by BigBandSwings0n on 3/20/12Tilles Center Concert Hall - Greenvale

The Orchestra hit every note in each Big Band ballad to perfection !!! The vocalists harmonized beautifully ! There was a natural relationship between the vocalists and the Dorsey Big Band... One suggestion may be to place large video screens behind the band to show movie footage of the 1940's life, WWII, Big Band Members, cars, planes, actors, actresses, stores, cities etc .. all things of the era to engage the audience and trigger memories of there youth..This is done very successfully by Steve Lawrence and recently at Tilles by Debbie Reynolds.... Also, the show was slightly too long.. the last few numbers should have been a quick compilation of numbers with one large applause ending the afternoon...Older individuals have difficulty holding up over 2 hours and were a bit confused as to when the show actually ended which is why many left before the end of the performance..... The band leader Mr. Toole should rehearse his stories to smoothly convey humorous situations easily...I'd like to see a return of the Pied Pipers & Band ! They really are talented and throughly enjoyable... Again, a steady stream of top hits along with beautiful vocals is the receipe for success that will carry this group to new audiences and beyond ! Bravo !

The Jimmy Dorsey Band and the Pied Pipers

by Caroljbe on 3/20/12Tilles Center Concert Hall - Greenvale

I took my 85 year old mother to this concert and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it, as I don't have the history with the big band music. The music was so uplifting and authentic, it was hard not to get up and dance! The Pied Pipers were an extra bonus, very entertaining and totally connected with the audience. It was so refreshing to see performers that really cared about the audience. The last number was a tribute to the Veterans in the audience, and that was so heartwarming. After the show, the performers were happy to socialize with people in the lobby, and were very accomodating about having their pictures taken. I am so glad I took my mother to this concert, she absolutely loved it, and it brought back memories about those wonderful days when she and my father danced to all those songs.

Wow! If you like the oldies,( like my best friend and I do), don't miss this! Song, after song, after song! Almost 3 hours non-stop. My feet are so sore from all that rhythm tapping, I'm still limping. Keep in mind, these are songs and hits are the tunes that I grew up with (I'm over 70), so the younger generation may not appreciate them like I did. But for my buck, it was certainly a buck well spent! (And priced very reasonably to boot)!!!
