Jimmy Cobb - a living legend!!

by Anonymous on 4/24/13Valley Performing Arts Center - Northridge

An outstanding, truly unforgettable concert and performance. Jimmy Cobb is a brilliant musician as well as a consummate drummer. As if that weren't enough, the other members of his group were awesome!

by yrnicknameistkn on 4/22/13Valley Performing Arts Center - Northridge

what an amazing show, i closed my eyes and felt like i was listening to miles davis of 60 years ago. jimmy's drum solo blows away ANY other drummers' attempt to match his skills.

Climb Every Mountain: Kind of Blue Blazing @ Belle

by JazzKittenFan on 8/20/11Belleayre Music Festival - Highmount

Despite the torrential rain monsoons I drove in to and from the concert, it was all worth it to hear my fabulous four (Javon Jackson, Larry Willis, Jimmy Cobb, and Buster Williams) blow the roof off the big white tent atop Belleayre Mountain in Woodstock, NY. First prize goes to Larry Willis who stole the show every number and was swinging hard, catchy, and full of zest and pizazz. Larry Willis was a delightful Master Pianist who knows Kind of Blue inside out and sideways. Second prize goes to Javon Jackson whose playing was the most consistent, original, and nuanced. Moreover, Mr. Jackson was the best dressed, perfectly suited eye candy of the entire ensemble. Buster Williams and Jimmy Cobb by no means pulled up the rear yet kept perfect time in the back on bass and drums respectively. The younger musicians Christian Scott and Myron Walden were OK but didn't particularly move me in comparison to their seasoned band mates. Great show overall. Well worth the trek!

    Belleayre + Jazz = Perfection

by brooklyntocatskill on 8/10/11Belleayre Music Festival - Highmount

The music was awesome and the venue beautiful and relaxed. The Belleyre Music Festival is a great place to see anything! The folks volunteering as ticket takers and ushers, etc. were lovely and well organized. Every seat in the house/tent was good and the sound was great! Jimmy Cobb and his So What Band did not disappoint! Each player gave so much and so beautifully, we enjoyed every minute!
