    Jill = Great live performer

    by FreddyRumson on 7/10/13Howard Theatre - Washington

    Jill Sobule had some MTV hits in the 1990s, but now plays mostly acoustic. An outstanding songwriter with a sharp wit -- which is all the funnier because her voice has a sweet (almost mousy) quality. Think of an angelic Randy Newman who plays guitar instead of piano. Some of her songs are topical and political -- leaning to the left. I've seen her live 5 times, and each show is an event on its own because she could just as easily be an improv comic. She is particularly good on stage with Julia Sweeney -- two funny ladies telling stories and singing songs.

    Classic honest music and dialogue

    by Ohwhattamom on 7/10/13Howard Theatre - Washington

    I heard Jill with comic Julia Sweeney; they were performing as the "Jill and Julia Show." A refreshing evening of thoughts about life and music about our lives. Always love both of them.

    Excellent as always. Lots of energy, new stuff from her Yentl play and lots of old goodies as well. Loved it!

    Boy, Jill can play! Fantastic time. Took requests and talked with the audience between songs.

    Jill is an amazing songwriter and performer. She blends comedy and tragedy together better than about anyone, and often in the same song. She is a must see, and usually plays small venues ,allowing her to talk to the audience,creating a more personal experience.

    jd and jill

    by klinical on 7/14/09Coach House - Capistrano - San Juan Capistrano

    It was a great evening of music. There was a local for the opening act, then Jill started her set with "Don't F with me." JD did a fabulous set that included Ellington's "Don't get around much anymore." Loved the whole evening, and wished it would have lasted longer.

    Exceptional Show from start to finish

    by bertram120 on 7/14/09Coach House - Capistrano - San Juan Capistrano

    JD Souther is an amazing performer. His sense of humor and perspective allows him to weave his songs together in a performance that leaves you totally satisfied. His maturity allows him to laugh at himself, and his performing skills are top-notch. His catalog of songs is so deep that he could go on and on and on. And we'd enjoy every minute. Jill Sobule was a great opener. Oh so quirky, funny and and an outstanding talent. Sometimes her complete honesty is bracing, but that's in part what makes her so enjoyable.
