Overall, the production was well done and filled with lots of talent from veteran actors. The singing was right on to fill a stage of simple, yet, to the point deco. There could of been a little less "fill in" dancing, since it was done with teens or young children. The in between time would have been enjoyed just as much by listening to just instrumental music instead. I come back each time and with the same excitement prior and after seeing it.

Most of the singing was good, Few were great. Costumes were bad, dancers had rips in their tights, outfits didn't seem to fit very well. Music was great. Glad I went but probably won't go again even though it is an annual show.

    Jesus Christ Super Star

by Anonymous on 4/7/15The Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater - Syracuse

I was so so so so disappointed!! We started going to the show back in the 80's. I had not gone for the last 5+ yrs and was really looking forward to seeing it again with a large group of friends. :-((( I had everyone so excited and when the show started they all looked at me with confusion. I had bragged about how awesome the show was and this was the farthest thing from awesome. **It looked like anyone who tried out got a part. **The microphones kept going in and out, the actors did not articulate the words to the songs, and it was almost impossible to understand the show at all. **If I had not seen the show many times before I would have had NO CLUE what was going on.. I was constantly looked at by my group with ?????? on their faces. **Judas however was very good!

Good job, tickets a little pricey though

by MAryEllenVD on 4/7/15The Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater - Syracuse

Amateur actors but good. Saw quite a few years back at salt city's old venue, theater in old church. So venue much better. Tickets kind of pricey though. Great singing. Ending spectacular. Just a suggestion, have actors (actors playing crowd) remove wrist watches. Lol. Not an item available in that time period.

    Sound issues galore

by MinSyracuse on 4/7/15The Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater - Syracuse

Judas & Simon were terrific, but the only time I could hear Jesus was when he was shrieking. The rest of his sound was completely lost, due to sound board issues or his lack of projection? It was hard to tell, but either way when you can't hear the main character there's a problem. Mary's acting was great, I really felt like her heart was breaking when Jesus died, but she was obviously trained in opera which is the wrong style of singing for this show.

Best version besides the original movie cast!

by kbiv on 4/7/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

I have seen Jesus Christ Superstar multiple times since I was a child. My mother and I watch the movie religiously (no pun intended), know all of the words, and believe that the movie cast is the best cast, has the best voices, best acting, and best renditions. We have seen the movie cast (or certain actors from it) perform Jesus Christ Superstar many times and still, no one is as good as them. When I bought the tickets to see this show at the Keswick, my mom and I were hesitant. From the outside, the building looks like the performance could have been a high school or amateur show, but I must say we were very pleasantly surprised. The set-up of the seating around the stage was wonderful -- you had a good view no matter where you sat, and the acoustics in the room were outstanding. We loved how the performers walked through the aisles, sang in the aisles, and interacted with the audience during the performance. This all added to the powerful message of Jesus Christ Superstar and was a pleasure to the senses to hear singing and acting from all around the theatre. Out of all of the versions we've seen thus far, most the performers for this show were possibly second best to Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson, and Yvonne Elliman. Carl Anderson was the ultimate Judas. The power in his voice and the notes that he hit in every song MADE the character. The actor that played Judas in this production was DEFINITELY the best Judas since Carl Anderson I've ever seen. OUTSTANDING. And the actress that played Mary Magdalene was one of the best singers I've ever seen since Yvonne Elliman. The actor that played Jesus acted well, and sang fairly well for most of the play, but it was kind of comical when he'd go to hit the high notes because he'd yelp, in a sense, and it ruined the dramatic moments for me. I don't know if he was trying to sing like Ted Neeley or what, and the program said that he opened for many famous rock singers in his career, but that trying-to-hit-the-high-note-yelping HAD to go. Other than that, I have no complaints. Pontius Pilate was wonderful, definitely held a candle to Barry Dennen in the movie, and King Herrod was comical and brought the right amount of fun to the movie, like he should. The choreography was outstanding, and we were pleasantly surprised at how moving the crucifixion scene was executed, since it can be so hard to act out on stage, let alone in a traveling version of the play. I believe that this event is held every year at the Keswick and I will definitely be seeing it again next year, and recommending it to all of my friends and family.

    JC Superstar ---Superstank!

by Anonymous on 4/5/13The Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater - Syracuse

Awful Awful Awful. Horrible acoustics, horrible sound system, broken mics, mediocre band, a couple that could sing but none that could dance, and the stage setup was elementary school at best. Judas was great despite his broken mic. The rest were dismal. Big disappointment.

    Jesus Christ Superstar

by Tadzma on 4/4/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

I've seen the movie, know the soundtrack, but hadn't seen this live. My daughter and I were pleasantly surprised at the caliber of the singers, since this was a local production. Very moving and entertaining. Perfect for the Saturday before Easter.

The cast and crew did a great job! I was amazed by the quality of the performance and the great voices. Well done.
