About

It's tempting to try to summarize dobro master Jerry Douglas's musical impact with numbers: 12 Grammy Awards, 11 Musician of the Year awards from the Academy of Country Music (and three more from the Country Music Association), eight instrumentalist awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association, and over 2,000 instrumental appearances on records by such artists as Paul Simon, Ray Charles, The Chieftains, Elvis Costello and Reba McEntire. The leader of Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas (the band often abbreviated as AKUS) offers a pithier description: "He's irreplaceable," Ms. Krauss tells us.

Performing with The Jerry Douglas Band is  singer/guitarist John Oates, who  is best known as one half of one of rock's most successful duos of all-time, Hall & Oates.  Their breakout  major hits,  "Sara Smile" and "Rich Girl," catapulted them to stardom and were followed by many other hits including  "Kiss on my List," "Private Eyes," "Maneater," and "Say it isn't So," to name but a few.  They unquestionably became one of the U.S.' top pop-rock groups. As a result, Oates became a sought after producer by other artists, as he worked with Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin, the Parachute Club, and Chris Sheppard, and performed on recordings by Taj Mahal, Tina B, and Icehouse, among others.

Maura O'Connell is a Grammy Award-nominated Irish singer and actress. O'Connell began her professional musical journey during a six-week tour of America in 1980, as vocalist for the traditionally-based Celtic group De Dannan. The following year, she was featured on the band's landmark album, The Star Spangled Molly, (where she has the lead vocals on four tracks) which became something of a national phenomenon in her homeland.

Her 2009 album, Naked With Friends, is O'Connell's first a cappella album. Guest vocalists include Mary Black, Paul Brady, Moya Brennan, Jerry Douglas, Alison Krauss, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Tim O'Brien, Dolly Parton, Kate Rusby and Darrell Scott.

    Fantastic Show, Incredible Talent

by Sarge on 11/22/23Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - Cincinnati

Two fabulous musicians. Daniel Kimbro may be the best I've ever heard at his craft. I loved the Stanley Clark show in the same venue a few months back. Stanley was great, but Daniel is a phenom. He is unbelieveably capable, and plowing new ground. Jerry Douglas is DEFINITELY the best there is among those holding a steel in their left hand. He truly is incomparable, residing at the pinnacle of the art. HIS art, I should say ... he OWNS it. With respect to slide, resophonic, Dobro, or whatever, simply put, there is Jerry Douglas, and then there is everyone else.

Jerry Douglas, and his band were amazing!!

by Donnie on 5/17/23Birchmere - Alexandria

In addition to some great instrumentals, Jerry sang two blues numbers, and did an excellent job! His bass player also sang a wonderful original tune. All of the band members are world-class musicians!

    Fantastic

by Bluegrass lover on 5/16/23Birchmere - Alexandria

We went with friends who recommended the show, and I didn't know about Jerry Douglas until I got there to learn that he was a critical part of Union Station, that I loved. Great show and all musicians are on top of their game. I highly recommend this show and will see him again when he returns to the Birchmere.

    Something For Everyone Picker

by Richard on 5/16/23Birchmere - Alexandria

Jerry has kept his superior sidemen for several years and he honors them in numerous personal ways through his set. Their music selections range from Delta Blues, th Nashville, Bluegrass, Hotgrass to Jazz. He’s persona is human scale and their performance is without equal.

by Donis on 3/7/20Crystal Bay Club Casino Crown Room - Crystal Bay

I've seen Jerry Douglas a number of times at the Strawberry Music Festival and Cayamo Cruise. He's such an incredible Dobro master and never ceases to give me goosebumps.

    by Engla on 5/9/17

This was a wonderful show- I hadn't seen most of them before, but they were so talented and entertaining, I feel lucky to have gotten a ticket to see them on the last night of their tour on our side of 'the pond'. They are seriously good musicians!

    Amazing

by rickds on 5/8/17Town Hall - New York

If you like Celtic, bluegrass and a touch of country, performed by brilliant musicians, then this is for you. I hope to never miss them again. Jerry Douglas is just such a great Dobro player, and seems to be able to do anything he wants on it. His intro was that they were going to play for a good 2.5 hours non-stop because they just wanted to give us so much music. Non-stop. He did give permission to get up and go to the bathroom if you had to. I held it in - wouldn't miss a second. Aly Bain was great, as were all the guests and the band itself. A show I will never forget. I wish I could get a recording. Seriously, if you ever have a chance to see Jerry, Aly and friends, do it.

    Outstanding Musicianship

by Billfparks on 5/7/17Town Hall - New York

May have been one of the best assemblies of musicians and inventive vocalists that I have seen in my lifetime, all held together by master of the dobro Jerry Douglas. This was a terrific show in the wonderful listening room of Town Hall in NYC

    Grand Session

by TimStar62 on 5/7/17Town Hall - New York

I thought the fiddlers, pipers, tinwhistlers, guitarists and rhythm section were spectacular. I wished they had stuck to more traditional songs rather than some of the vocalists own compositions. I would have liked to have heard more of Sarah Jarosz.

    Magic

I am a trained classical musician. These are very talented artists playing as an ensemble. If you like this kind of music then this is a show that can't be missed.
