Jencarlos Canela was born to Cuban parents in Miami in 1988. He got his start in music at age 12 as the lead singer of Boom Boom Pop, a youth pop group that he toured with for two years before leaving to pursue a solo career. After acting in several telenovelas he made his album debut in 2009 with Búscame, an overnight success that topped the Latin Pop Albums chart and earned him his first hits with "Amor Quédate" and "Nadie Como Yo". Canela was named the Breakout Artist of the Year at the Premio Lo Nuestro Awards in February of 2011, and several months later he further cemented his position as Latin music's brightest new star with the release of his chart-topping sophomore album Un Nuevo Día.
