    Phenomenal show

    by Luke3k on 4/12/13State Theatre - Portland

For the past few years, once I truly got into attending live concerts, I've been waiting for the day that I could see Jeff Mangum play live, and I was absolutely thrilled to have such an opportunity. When I first purchased my tickets, I was honestly unsure of what to expect. I had seen fantastic reviews of Mangum's show, but I wasn't sure if I could actually trust those reviews or if those were just fans with such extreme bias that the show could have been terrible and they would have still had a fantastic time. Needless to say, the show lived up to the hype. Mangum was truly a fantastic performer. He kept the crowd involved and played each song with such great emotion that you could not help but have a good time. The setting was so intimate and personal, as Mangum sat center stage with 4 acoustic guitars. It was honestly such a great experience, and I would urge any fan of Jeff Mangum to take any opportunity to see him that presents itself.

    Mangum show hampered by morons

by DrJackal on 4/3/13Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

Jeff Mangum's rare performance at the Spreckel's Theater was primarily a solo acoustic affair, although he did have a cellist accompany him on a couple of numbers. Drawing exclusively from the Neutral Milk Hotel records on the 1990s, Mangum's warm reception was disrupted repeatedly by overzealous and inconsiderate audience members who apparently wanted to be seen and heard by the reclusive songwriter. One low point was when a young woman in the balcony screamed "Impregnate me!!" Mangum sang throughout all of the audience's infantile stupidity, although one can't help but wonder if the brevity of the show was not one result of the audience's rude treatment of him.

    His voice gets inside you

by Roxy92024 on 3/29/13Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

Jeff Mangum's voice is so hauntingly beautiful. This venue was the perfect place for him to perform an acoustic show of just him and his guitars. I can still hear his voice in my head. His performance was incredible... Something that will stay with me for a long time. I am a huge fan and I hope that he will be back in the area again soon. I would see him again and again!

Great concert marred by terrible audience.

by nodisassemble on 3/28/13Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

It was truly spectacular to finally catch Jeff live, and his performance did not disappoint. However, about a dozen drunk and/or inappropriate audience members seemed to visibly frustrate him and distract the more respectful members of the audience. Yelling "I love you" and things about how you want to have his babies? Taking flash photography or videos when it's clearly posted that that's not permitted? Come on. This is a quiet indie-folk show. That kind of behavior is clearly disrupting the connection the performer's trying to make with his audience. At one point, he seemed to me like he could easily have walked off stage in frustration. I'm surprised he did an encore at all.

    Words not needed. Mind blown.

A true performer, poet, beautiful brain and voice. Glad I got to see Jeff a 2nd time in such an intimate setting.

Jeff was fantastic, as expected! Wow, he grew a big beard. If you enjoy Neutral Milk Hotel then you will enjoy his show as he plays almost the entire Aeroplane album among other great selections too. Julian and the Music Tapes were really great too if you enjoy their style. I thought the Tall Firs were a little boring, but not bad at all. One venue issue is that they serve a lot of alcohol here and the audience was a bit obnoxious because of it. If you want to stand and go up front, it might be a bit better, but if you want a chair be warned. There were noisy people behind me throughout, except when Jeff came on they had the sense to can it.

One of the best shows I've been to in the last few years. I would definitely recommend seeing Jeff Mangum at least once before you die.

Extraordinary show. Jeff was very quiet and humble until he started to sing, and everyone began to sing, and it was beautiful.

Jeff Mangum is an artist that means a lot to me personally. I didn't think I was ever going to have a chance to see him play live, so this concert was a pretty unforgettable experience.
