Great reunion and presentation of ‘80s material. Jean-Luc was amazing as always and backed by a killer band!
Amazing performance by all original band members from the Atlantic years. Played the classics( Enigmatic Oceans, Cosmic Messenger etc..) just did not my favorite, Egocentric Molecules. Maybe it was too rough on the fingers, however Jean luc and all the band members were playing with the accuracy that they played with when recording the songs almost 40 years ago. At 75 years old, he plays like he did in his youth! Just mezmerizing! Go see hime while he still tours. Sonner than later he will have to give up touring, but it looks like there is no sign of that
Truly amazing. Sound was off the charts. Highly recommend.
excellent show, amazing music JLP and associates were crowd pleaser.s I can not wait till he comes around again so I can take my violin playing 9 year old niece!
I am a big fan of mid 70’s fusion . I favor the the first 3 Atlantic records . Upon the wings of music , Aurora , and Imaginary Voyage. In that order. The Band members are all virtuosos in this genre. The Solos throughout the show were all amazing ; fluent with high energy. The band listened to the soloist and helped build cresndo accents and punctuations. I love that injection of improvisational Jazz into the edgy rock structure. There was plenty of that. This issue ,for me ,in Jazz Rock, are the harmonic structures. So although the solos were all great, the tunes are limited by the Genre ( for me) . Ponty’s compositional harmonic aprroach is rich but dissonance is lacking in the chord structures . This is not his “fault” bcs altered chords sound pretty awful when fuzzed out ( pat Martino does get away with this bcs of the steccato punctuating rhythm style he uses (guitar as drum) Ponty’s compositions are eurphoric, and meant to be ephemeral cushions to blow over. In that sense they are perfect . Ponty ads the dissonce, tension and release to his shimmering chord progressions through the soloists voice. Mahavishnu Orchestra tried to go with altered chord harmonies ( versus suspended , 6/9 chords and minor 11th chords) years ago. It was harsh and hard for many to listen to. My favorite album of theirs is Visions of the Emerald beyond . Ponty’s finger prints are all over it in the blunting of MAhavishnu Orchestra’s usual harsh sound. The show is absolutely worth hearing. Ponty’s ephemeral compositions and a whole band of virtuosos blasting off over these solo vehihcs is a rare musical treat .
Jean Luc Ponty and his backup musicians were extraordinary. I have loved his music for 40 years. He did not disappoint at all. It was a great show! The venue was also wonderful. Great seating with lots of space and leg room. The sound quality was great too. I will definitely be coming to more shows here.
Unbelievable music by five master musicians waited thirty Years to see Jean luc Ponty live. Talented master.
A chance to revisit my teenage ‘modern’ music listening ‘setlists’ live from the 70’s... in his 70’s now he’s still good, although today the electric violin is no longer a futuristic phenomenon! Glaser on the guitar was EXCELLENT, and their acoustic trio was beautiful.
Besides hearing one or two of his songs on 101.9 back in the 80’s, I never really followed his career but after seeing him perform, I am definitely buying his CDs. He was incredible and so was the band!
This would be my 3rd time seeing Ponty in concert. He and his band are always incredible and talented. Remarkable performance. Great song selections too.
