by ctherose on 5/13/15Apollo Theater - New YorkOutstanding event with eclectic programming and sensitive curation. Jason Moran is a McArthur Fellow and he showed his mettle in this event. The piano segment opening the show was first rate and the dancers and modern vocal group were outstanding as well.

by Marylouwilliams on 5/12/15Apollo Theater - New YorkI can't believe this guy took over for Billy Taylor as the head of the jazz division of the Kennedy Center. The lack of musicianship was clear from the beginning to the end and the pseudofusion of hip-hop with jazz is just a smokescreen for lack of true understanding of this music and what it takes to play it. The only highlight of the show was Gerald Clayton and Roy Hargrove doing "I should care" . The only true jazz moment. Moran and Carey are weak piano players and need to learn that nuance and touch are the tools of great ones.

by Galactus2012 on 5/12/15Apollo Theater - New YorkThis was an amazing show. Jason Moran curated what could be considered a large show with a sense of intimacy in the way each of the performers were introduced to the audience. And the big band concert in Part III was utterly superb. Kudos, Jason. Kudos to everyone involved.
