About

Jars of Clay were the breakout band of the so-called alternative CCM movement of the '90s, scoring an enormous mainstream hit with the debut single "Flood" and enjoying platinum sales. The group's lyrics may have been exclusively Christian, but their acoustic-oriented music fit perfectly into the folky jangle pop wing of alternative rock radio, at the time a rarity on the contemporary Christian music scene. Such success set the stage for breakthroughs by Christian bands like dc Talk and Sixpence None the Richer, and it's difficult to imagine the later popularity of heavier, Christian-themed hard rockers like Creed and P.O.D. without Jars of Clay's fusion of spiritual themes and mainstream alternative rock sounds. As popular tastes shifted, Jars of Clay found it increasingly difficult to maintain a secular audience, but still commanded a sizable Christian following while remaining one of the highest-profile groups in any gospel-music subgenre.

Band was amazing sound system was aweful

by CaraK on 2/19/14Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

Jars of Clay was so good in concert! I thought they sounded exactly like they do on the albums. They were all enthusiastic on their instruments and singing. I loved that they played a variety of music from all different albums and a good mix of fast and slow songs. Unfortunately the sound system at the culture room was terrible and it was hard to hear the singer for most of the concert.

by Maybea on 2/12/14Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

There perfomance was bigger than the venue! We were so thankful that we had the opportunity to see them live, for their performance outshines their cd's. It was an all around five star performance and kudos to the band for having a stellar opening act. #adorbs

The album is amazing and you should get it before seing the show so you can truly appreciate a band who can play so connected its a great experience to be in their presence. They are a truly great band on stage!!!

    A great night!

by STLJarsFan on 10/28/13Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

A fantastic show by a fantastic band. They played all of the favorites I was hoping they would - including Flood, Work, and Frail, as well as a number of excellent tracks from Inland, including the title track, which is yet another penetrating tune from Jars. As I expected, they were on their game. I only wish they played a bit longer - the show was ca. 80 mins., including the encore. I liked the two opening bands, but one would have sufficed.

This was the first time that I have seen them perform but have been a fan for many years. Loved the venue and ability to be so close to the band.
