    outstanding!

by SeeNY on 10/30/13Tilles Center Concert Hall - Greenvale

I've seen Sir James many times, but I especially like this performance. I loved the venue at Tilles Center; well organized, beautiful, comfortable. Also had great seats, great acoustics, and could see and hear him well. He played a LOT MORE than was indicated online; played many pieces not on the program, so don't worry; you will get to hear a lot of Sir James. Only criticism was that a few times he started playing without giving the name of what he was playing; I understand he's used to playing a lot for flutists that know, but he should give the info. anyway. Great show! He also sold and signed CD's.

    Excellent

by HugeCCRFan on 11/2/11Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts - Pittsburgh

The evening began right on time with the superb Pittsburgh Symphony performing Haydn's Symphony No. 67 in F major and Hovhaness's Symphony No. 2, Opus 132, "Mysterious Mountain" under the direction of Conductor Leonard Slatkin. The Hovhaness selection was enjoyable while the Haydn selection was extremely enjoyable and performed superbly. After an intermission the Pittsburgh Symphony and Sir James Galway performed Mozart's Concerto No. 2 in D major for Flute and Orchestra and Bizet's Fantaisis Brilliante on themes from "Carmen" for Flute and Orchestra. The combined sound of the excellent symphony with Sir James Galway's play on the flute was beyond superb. It is no wonder that he is referred to as "the man with the golden flute" and that he has been honored with the title of Sir due to his contribution to music. The performance was followed by two encores one of which was the performance of the Irish classic "Danny Boy". A perfect ending by this Irish master of his instrument, the flute. An exceptional evening!
