About

JAGWAR MA IN CONCERT:

Jagwar Ma has been wowing audiences everywhere with upbeat, psychedelic rock since breaking onto the indie scene with 2013’s Howlin’. The band combines bright synths, wailing guitars, and ethereal vocals to create a unique sound that plays out perfectly live. On tour Jagwar Ma tears through fan favorites like “The Throw” along with other cuts from their debut album and delivers one thrilling show after another for eager ticket buyers.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Jagwar Ma was formed in 2011 by friends Gabriel Winterfield, Jono Ma, and Jack Freeman. The three-piece began recording demos in their living room studio that ranged from Motown to EDM and spent several years experimenting with different instruments before arriving at their distinct, psychedelic sound. The band relocated to France soon after and released their 2013 EP The Time and Space Dub Sessions, which put them on the indie music radar as ones to watch. They broke out with their full-length debut later that year titled Howlin’ which received praise from major publications like NME and Pitchfork and spawned opening gigs on Foals’ and the XX’s tours. They sold out several headlining dates of their own, made appearance at world-renowned festivals like Glastonbury and Coachella, and continue to bring infectious energy whenever they play their dance-inducing tracks for excited fans.

    Need more Ma...

This was my 4th Jagwar Ma show in the past 3 years. This venue at the Mezzanine was perfect for their stuff, with great sound and and intimate contact with the 200+ folks there. I thoroughly enjoyed the set and the visuals. I felt this was their best musical performance I had seen since Coachella in 2014. 1 criticism - either the mix was off or Gab's voice was failing to break through. Tired? Manchester?

Interesting but I will not recommend it

by geheza on 12/5/13Rough Trade NYC - Brooklyn

After a really boring first act (Fascinators), the young band played all their tunes with intent to make the crowd dance. If their record is really mainstream pop, their live set is electronics revisiting their songs. The attempt was not bad, sometimes interesting but not enough to be unfogettable. They have really poor scenic performance. This is a young band so I believe they improve their set soon

    great

by nikoicon on 12/5/13Rough Trade NYC - Brooklyn

Bands were great, sound great, show overall great. But I really wish that there had been opening acts listed just for timing purposes. AND- the ticket was $20 in advance on Ticketmaster + service charge, and then at the door it was $15 and NOT even sold out. Really really lame. Not Reflection on bands though
