J BOOG IN CONCERT:

Hawaii-based reggae rocker J Boog brings the carefree island vibes every time he takes the stage to perform his tropical jams. At his shows Boog and his backing group The Hot Rain Band kick out a sweltering downpour of catchy melodies, funky basslines, and dub riddims that always gets ticket buyers moving their feet. Boog can rap and sing with the best of them, and his larger-than-life personality and infectious on-stage dancing make every show feel like the party of a lifetime. As the group performs upbeat numbers like "Sunshine Girl" and "Let's Do It Again", ticket buyers are transported to an island paradise where getting your groove on is the only thing that matters.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

J Boog, aka Jerry Afemata, was raised in Compton, CA on a steady diet of Bob Marley, N.W.A., and Sublime. He grew up singing with his brothers and sisters, and in high school he started performing at local clubs. In 2007 he traveled to Hawaii to see reggae legend FIJI (George Veikoso) perform, and he managed to slip Veikoso his mixtape after the show. Veikoso and his team were impressed, and a few days later they began working together on J Boog's debut album. The result was 2007's Hear Me Roar, a surprise success that cracked the Top 10 on Billboard's Top Reggae Albums chart. The response in Hawaii was especially positive, and in 2009 J Boog moved there to work on music full-time. His rise continued in 2011 with an acclaimed self-titled EP and his sophomore album Backyard Boogie, a No. 1 hit on the Reggae charts that earned him an International Reggae and World Music Award (IRAWMA) for Best New Entertainer. Since then Boog has toured extensively with his group The Hot Rain Band, both in support of big acts like Rebelution and on several headlining tours of their own. On tour with Rebelution again in 2016, Boog and company have fans eager to soak up the good vibrations of their unforgettable sets.

    Epic Jboog Concert

by Beth on 4/3/24Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

1st off, Jboog, Johnny Suite and Bimwala all were fantastic along with all the other band members whom I don't know their names. This review will also include the Waikiki Shell where the concert was held. I love Jboog's music very much! I got my friend and I seats in the D section 2nd row. Unfortunately, we could barely see the stage in these seats. I will definitely never book my seats in the 2nd row on the left side of the stage (facing stage) again! That was my real only complaint, and I will make this known on the Waikiki Shell's review. I was a bit shocked thought that Jbood didn't take a break in his show. I my opinion, he looked very tired and ready to fall over at a couple of moments up on the stage. I surely hope he's in good health afterwards. I look forward to seeing him and Johnny Suite perform this month in Vegas at the HoloHolo Festival.

    7th show

by Jewellhereford on 4/3/24Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

Huge long time fan of JBoog! Finally got a chance to see him and the band headline at the Waikiki Shell. As always the show didn’t disappoint. From lights and tech, music, and crowd work energy it was a great time. Surprise guest and he played for about 2 hours! only upset was how fast crème sunshine girl fan shirts sold out. Lucky I snagged a XXXL, about 3 sizes too big; but will keep for great memories! mahalo to everyone who set it up!

    Disappointed

by Jade on 4/2/24Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

collie buddz was exceptional. Better than jboog. Jboog only sang 1 verse from many of his songs and seemed like he struggled to sing. His band backed him up and picked up the pieces singing most of the songs then he brought up Caleb from the green (which I’m sure no on expected) love Caleb but we were here to listen to jboog. Not sure if it’s time for jboog to hang it up but disappointed that he couldn’t even sing.

    Not that great

by Tita on 4/2/24Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

It could’ve been great but the sound was so soft and that was not the business. However the bathroom lines were way better this time and the food trucks were great

Da Concert was Off the Chain!!

by Brian D on 4/2/24Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

The concert was AWESOME!! Collie Budz put on a good show.... But J Boog put on a GREAT SHOW!! The music was amazing and guest appearance from the lead singer of the Green was phenomenal surprise..... Only thing that would have made it better... was Fiji making a guest appearance. 2nd row, center worth every penny.
