    Ardent Public Radio Listener

by Uncle Bob on 4/9/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

I think Grand Rapids was fortunate to have Ira Glass come to our town. His delivery was fascinating! Using a music stand and about 50 pages of notes . . . along with an Apple iPad and a giant screen, I was fascinated with the presentation! And his "view of the world."His best line: "Two old men, running to become the President, and no one likes them!"And then chiding us: "Michigan voters are going to be the ones who select our next President." Intellectual, amusing, professional, clever . . . a very enjoyable presentation. (Ticketmaster >>>> YOU are the ones who need improvement. Your website was just about impossible to wade through! It SHOULD be as easy as Lands End. More customer oriented . . . not the Techies on your staff.)

    Hard to hear

by Alan on 4/9/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

I have hearing problems as it is. And I wore my hearing aids. But, the amount of echoing and reverberation in the hall still made it difficult for me to catch everything that was said. This is also why I do no attend the Broadway series. I simply can't catch all of the dialogue etc. I do not have the LOOP option in my hearing aids. So, I have no idea what to write in a review, except to honestly report what it was like for me. I missed a lot of the commentary with Ira's quick switching from him speaking to recorded dialogue or video dialogue. It was not as enjoyable as it had hoped it would be.

    A Night To Remember

My wife's been a huge Ira Glass fan for decades. Was a huge treat for her and for me to see the smile he put on her face.

    Better on film

by Mention on 3/17/23Kupferberg Center for the Arts - Queens

We struggled with the venue. We were dazzled by the preconcert animation. Ira was himself, his messaging useful and entertaining. Overall I’d rather watch him on PBS with some props. The online locked student ticket prices were painful and should include Seniors. TWO people in the audience raised their hands when Ira asked a show of hands by students. We could have filled 10-12 empty seats at $25.00 with Ira’s PBS friends over 65 . We are over 70 years, seek lessons and paid $100 for tkts plus $100 round trip for Uber. How bout a City venue with a full house.

    Enjoyable evening!

by Angie on 3/14/23Kupferberg Center for the Arts - Queens

Such a treat to have Ira IRL with bonus visuals for what's normally just a voice. Stirring up all the emotions, he made time fly with his words- arresting, touching, humorous, & at times sad. Loved it many times over!

    Good, but interesting

    by k on 12/15/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

Overall Good, he spoke on many things personal and noteworthy in the news and other things. They didn't introduce him with his name or anything, he just walked out onstage. Thought he deserved more than that. Overall I'm glad I went.

    The "Line"

by Jim Z on 11/26/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

The Ira Glass show was great. It deserved 5 stars - my wife and I really enjoyed it. However, when a show is scheduled to begin at 8:00 pm, it WOULD BE NICE if you opened your doors well before then. We arrived at 7:50 to a line that was NOT moving and went to the end of the line at 17th and Welton St - 2 and 1/2 blocks from the front door. We were seated around 8:20 and the show started a couple of minutes after that. (Absolutely no time for a cocktail or restroom).

    Fantastic

by lanniec on 11/26/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

I have loved Ira Glass for years, but had no idea what to expect from a one man journalist show. He was engaging, funny, insightful. My husband did not know who he was so he wasn't nearly as thrilled as i was, but he had a good time and said it was interesting. I laughed out loud throughout. Even though I've heard it, I'd go again. We could all learn a lot about speaking and storytelling from Ira Glass.

Don't tell my husband, but I have a crush on Ira Glass...

by Hotdish on 5/14/19State Theatre - Minneapolis

Ira is definitely a master storyteller, and he did not disappoint. He was completely deft and effortless with managing his own lighting and sound effects on his little hand-held iPad (or whatever it was). The one time it failed him he made a smooth little joke about "Please stand by." His seven "acts" were humorous, moving, and thought-provoking. When he shared the rather disheartening story about his dog Piney and asked us the audience if it was too sad to use on the air, we did think that, while artfully told, it was a bit of a downer and lacked a redemptive arc. But we totally loved the tale of the boy who rejected and then learned to love. He was even in the audience, but we couldn't see him due to our balcony loge seats. You'd think the State Theater could have gotten him a better placement, though I blame the theater and NOT Ira for this oversight. We love Ira and his live shows are fabulous!
