International Guitar Night, an A+ rec for everyone

by Hopekaran on 1/21/13Gordon Center for Performing Arts - Owings Mills

All 4 players, both last year and this year (my only times attending) were so. So good that it was pretty much transcendental! World class talent, many genres of music, a little story telling, and a lot of entertainment for the 3 hour show. I hope to catch this show every year it comes thru in the future. If you play guitar or enjoy listening, this show really is something you need to catch!

Was expecting more traditional classical guitar, but the "International" thing became unique and actually was probably much more interesting for my wife... great choice of different styles of music, from Brazilian to English jazz. The guy from Brazil was great

    International Guitar NIght

by roboschwar on 1/17/11Gordon Center for Performing Arts - Owings Mills

I've seen this tour every year for about 7 years now and its always a great show. Organized by Brian Gore - a very fine guitar player in his own right - he gathers 3 other players from far flung countries to join him on stage. This year he had a player from Brazil, and another from Rome, Italy, both extraordinary players. And then there was Clive Carroll. Clive I've seen many times, and while its not a competitive sport, I believe he may just be the finest living practitioner of the guitar on the planet. I saw the IGN this year at both The Barns at Wolftrap in Vienna, VA and the Gordon Center in Owings Mill, MD. Both performances were incredible, but the sound quality at Wolftrap is considerably better. The Gordon Center is a lovely space, but the overall sound was rather muddy, and that did detract a bit from the overall lexperience. Regardless, if you have a chance to see the International Guitar Night tour, take it!

    Mind Blowing!

by gtar on 1/17/10Gordon Center for Performing Arts - Owing Mills

This was the first time attending a Gordon Center event and first time attending the International Guitar Night, although it was the tenth year. I took my 19 year old guitar playing son to reward his good grades. Lucky us, since this was one fantastic evening. Brian Gore wasted no time showing us his fancy fingerwork and pleasant personality. Next introducing the exotic guitarist Itamar Erez originating from Israel, playing jazz with a Middle Eastern flare. Itamar in turn introduced Stephen Bennett a very down to earth, full of fun harp guitarist, who then introduced the charismatic and extremely talented Lulo Reinhardt . Lulo was pretty much mesmerizing. In the second half all four musicians jammed together, which resulted in a standing ovation and one more song for our blessed souls.

Loved it. There should be more concerts like this offered. Beautiful music in a pleasant setting at an affordable price. Much better then sitting on the couch watching the Ravens lose.
