Once in a lifetime
by Appetite4Deduction on 5/2/11Indiana Convention Center - IndianapolisI have always found amateur boxing fun to watch, because there are no "feuds," no tabloid stories--just skill. The finals were especially nice to watch because many of these fighters will go on to the U.S. Olympic Trials, so it was a good showing of up-and-coming talent. I would have liked to see Indiana boxers in the finals, but unfortunately luck wouldn't have it. What was important was that the nationals for the Golden Gloves had not been held in Indiana in ages, and having to drive only two hours to the venue was great. My only substantial criticism was that the Convention Center setup in Hall A did not lend itself to the spotlight-style boxing lighting setup most people have gotten used to, such as with the Tyndall Armory. The ambient lights were on throughout each bout. Since I could see the boxers perfectly well, it's not much of a complaint, but it did take some of the spectacle away. All in all, a great show.
