The In Living Color Comedy Tour On Tour
The pioneering early-1990s sketch comedy series In Living Color made inroads in a lot of ways. Beyond the basic impact of presenting an African-American comedy troupe, the show also introduced the wider world to major talents, from creator Keenen Ivory Wayans to Rosie Perez, Jamie Foxx, David Alan Grier, and Tommy Davidson, though many of them had already met with some previous successes.
The show itself lasted until 1994, but the comedic spirit it created lived on in the work of its key contributors. So when David Alan Grier and Tommy Davidson reunited to headline the In Living Color Comedy Tour in the ‘10s, they were bringing a lot of history with them.
Back in the In Living Color days, Grier gained fame for characters like the out-of-control shop teacher, the cantankerous old Mr. Brooks, and the underachieving blues man Calhoun Tubbs Davidson's portrayals of celebrities like Michael Jackson, Sammy Davis Jr., and Sugar Ray Leonard made millions crack up.
Both Davidson and Grier moved on from there to make their name in a long string of hit shows and films — Davidson in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Booty Call, and Juwanna Mann; and Grier in Jumanji, Blankman, and Amazon Women on the Moon, to name just a few. Each of them also carved out an impressive career in stand-up comedy along the way.
So when Davidson and Grier brought both of their comedic gifts to the same stage, it turned out to be the answer to the prayers of plenty of fans. Taking that classic combination directly to the people all over the country brought a certain kind of magic back to the comedy world, whether it inspired fond memories of the comics' shared history or simply set the stage for a new string of successes.
They were Awesome! I laughed so hard that I was crying. Accept for Shawn Wayons. He started out okay then had some offensive material regarding Martin Luther King that was just not right. Some of the other material was not that funny and he went on and on about it.
I wasn't for sure if I wanted to pay to see these guys because I had never seen any of them do Standup but I am so happy did. They had my stomach hurting from laughter the whole time. I would love to see the whole crew of In Living Color again. Great show.
They all did so great. I loved the interaction with the audience. We had fantastic seats we could see everything without any problem. My only complaint, I know the performers were sweating on stage but it was Freezing in the theater. Lose 1 star. It snowed that day but still the A/C was running.
Everyone who stepped on the stage was hilarious! My husband & I really enjoyed ourselves! While Shawn Wayans was super funny, we knew he was inebriated-which I gave him a pass for because it was his birthday! But still funny nonetheless! The bartender was great as well! Very personable & made a pretty delicious Rum Punch! The one area of improvement I found was given the rowS of empty seats in the A section, I wish the few people in the 1st rows of the B section were offered to move up. While I appreciate some times logistics won't allow, I honestly don't think it would've been a huge inconvenience, even if my husband & I weren't given the oppty,. Other than that- we had a blast!
The show was fantastic from emcee Keenan Wayans' opening monologue on to the end. I ranked the comedians in their order of their overall performance as follows; 1. David Alan Grier-this guy can actually sing and his cerebral characterizations and delivery were off the chain. 2. Tommy Davidson-is known for his spot on impersonations and he didn't disappoint. He also has impeccable comedic timing. 3. Shawn Wayans-was funny in spots and his comedy is largely observational. However, he lacked the wherewithal to carry a full set. The complaint has to do with the venue. Winstar has enough resources to put up outside/parking lot signage sign that shows customers a casino entry point nearest to the Global Event Center. Why make Global Event customers wade through the gauntlet of cigarette smoke to get to the event??? Winstar, you can do better.
Took my in-laws for their birthday and it was amazing. Have never seen them laugh so much. Got upgraded seats and laughed the entire time. Would definitely go again.
All comedians were funny and look great. Tommy Davidson is hilarious and naturally funny. Such a talented man!! Everyone keep up the great work!!
This was a great show but I really thought it would last longer. It was 5 comedians but it was over in about 1.5 hours; maybe that's typical? I don't know but would have felt better about spending $$$ if it had lasted longer
It was great. Keenan was better than I thought he would be. David Alan Grier Im a big fan and he didn't disappoint. Tommy was Tommy. And honestly Shawn was pretty good. I just think Tommys part was too short.
Some jokes were old seen on previous recordings from years back. The show was also very fast, I was over before I knew it. If you stood in line for a drink you missed half today the show. Other than that it was great seeing the guys live.
